Death Row an education

My daughter has to do some homework on death row and the way that the queue works. Does anybody know how it is dealt with ie what dictates how long it takes to execute the sentence. I am aware that some cases may be open to appeals which obviously delays things etc but apart from this ????

I think in the US the average is over 10 years. It can drag on for 30 or more as well depending on how long all the appeals take to hear.

I'd suggest setting the essay out something like this

What is Death Row
Countries ( or states if its USA based) have the death penalty
Death Penalty Crimes
'average' life experience of a prisoner on Death Row
Appeals process of a prisoner on death row
Crime figures comparing a a death row country to a none death row country
Amount of countries who have introduced the Death Penalty in the last 50 years/ v countries that have got rid of it
Alternatives and evidence for/against them working


Conclusion ( to include)
Cost ( killing a prisoner v's life term ( if I remember rightly after appeals its accually cheaper to give them a life term)
human rights
does it work
personal opinion ( if allowed)


Might have slightly had to do a similar essay in the past

It hits lots of bits of the curriculum in English, Critical thinking, philosophy, ethics even religion
