Re: dog food recipes
Hayley109 what else do you fill your kong with? I use peanut butter and biscuits but other suggestions would be good for a change for Ty.
I think this could turn out to be a great topic nice one Steve x

Re: dog food recipes
Meat pastes are good. I sometimes use beef and salmon. Inthe summer I fill them with cordial and freeze. Gives them a nice cool treat.
Also primula,philadelphia or any soft cheese. I always make sure they are low fat too. Can't have a fat staffy!

Re: dog food recipes
I have never thought about cheese spread he loves normal cheese so I will have to try that one and the paste thanks
Gonna sound like a stupid question but when you use cordial how do you make it stay in as Kongs have a hole in the top and bottom lol

Re: dog food recipes
Just pop the kong in a mug or plastic cup and top up with juice! Place in the freezer and that's it. It can get a bit messy but they're good for in the garden on a hot day.

Re: dog food recipes
i actually cook my dogs food meals by scratch.. i am making food right now for them.. i am not usually allowed in the kitchen otherwise but i make some awesome dog food and its actually fun and easy as i make it.. i always look for new ideas but the base of it all is usually cooked brown rice, really finely chopped up carrots raw or i steam them and mush them first and mix in with the rice then i take whatever meat i can find before it goes bad and half of it i put in the blender with water and i use a few pro-biotic capsules by taking the powder out and some omega 3 capsules i poke it and use the oil of a few as well as vitamin a and e and d and if i can find calcium in the capsules i use those too.. then blend it all up to a gravy type consistency and pour it in and mix and the rest of the meat i dice up small and throw in there. then i refrigerate the whole mess and at feeding time i use quick oats, mix with hot water until done then throw half of the food mix in and stir it up and they eat that. i like taking spinich and cutting it or ripping a few pieces in fresh too if i have that, and in summer i use squash because there are tons in garden and i just cook it and blend it then use that, or zuchinni.. a tomatoe or 2 thrown in is good as well. and when i feed i sometimes put a spoonful of vanilla yogurt or cottage cheese in as they love the cottage cheese. i do this because my largest dog was put on 80 bag of dogfood because they said he was overweight and 2 bags later he gained 20lbs feeding him this measured. he had gone through various brands and finally i decided if i know exactly what goes in him then i can decide his amounts and know what he reacts to and what works exactly. he is now thinning down some finally. that and i freaked out to know meat byproduct may contain euthanize animals in it and that being in dog food i wasn't liking that. i also have used DE powder food grade in the mix for health as well as fleas or parasites. i did however try this myself first.
i get to cook and someone actually enjoys it too finally! would love to learn to make treats but me and the oven are not so good together..

Re: dog food recipes
I tend to make meals out of a meat, vegies and rice.
Meat= 70%
Vegies=10%
Rice =20%
We really spoil our little boy with human grade meats like Kangaroo, Chicken Breast and wagyu beef rump. All the meat is either diced or minced and is served raw. I take the chill of the food so it is not too cold for him to eat. Also once a week I use fish instead of one of the meats just to mix it up and give him his omega 3's.
As for treat we tend to buy them at this stage but will work on making him something nice. Now that he is 12 weeks I am going to start to feed him some bones onces a week.
I am interested in trying some offal as allot of people seem to feed their dogs offal.
Cheers
