Re: Scaredy cat pup
lots of patience and high value treats , distract her from the perils around you by making yourself the focus of attention, put a coat on and go outside with her and praise her

Tried to give her lots of treats I've got her a coat and I've tried to make a running game out our walks -she just looks at me like I'm mad and tries to give me her puppy dog eyes

Absolutely brilliant pup other than being scared. Mostly house trained good with the kids and she loves Lots of cuddles- May have some minor issues with nipping but that's normal ain't it.She certainly knows that she's in the centre of this family.Ive had a staffy cross before and I knew what loyal and loving dogs they are I haven't said but she's very clever x

All sounds good and normal , Tommy is still nipping and jumping under excitement on occasions but improving every day. I meant how is she on her daytime walks ??

Not bad at all if its not rainy, windy or near the beach where there's sand mud or water

Re: Scaredy cat pup
At 16 weeks some will be braver than others. Tommy went straight into the sea at 13 weeks on holiday and then realised he didn't like it and won't go in any more , but loves the sand. Just have to take it steady and keep up the crazy lady stuff to distract her from her fears. When I said about the coat by the way I meant YOU putting your coat on and going outside with her to reassure her in the dark
These tough staffies are so brave

I don't think I will be able to not go out with her she's delegated me to this task-she won't go with hubby or my teenage kids .....she must be trying to get me back

Re: Scaredy cat pup
At 16 weeks she could be going through a 'fear imprint stage'. Dogs generally get 3 of these - the first is around 12-18 weeks, the second is around 7-18 months & then some go through another at about 2 years old.
Try to act normally whenever she seems unsure/scared. Talk quietly to her in a neutral tone & if possible get her to face her fear with you alongside her, talking quietly but firmly. Don't overdo it, just get her near whatever scares her, stop for a few seconds & then walk away, giving her loads of praise.
