Hi there, new here and going to be a 1st time staffy owner..advice on a few things would be wonderful :)
Hi there,
I am getting my first staffy which im extremely excited about, we have a boxer girl, Kali, whos 6 years old, so knowing there reputation with girls we are getting a lil boy...
Though we have never had a problem with her social manners, Was wondering any advice on introducing the 2??
She loves 'her yard' which has been designed for her, it has a dog lap pool and a sandpit and different hanging toys etc and she uses none of it, she really is a lazy boxer come to think of it, yet she gets quite put out if we even move something in there so adding a friend i want it to go as smooth as possible for both of them
It is only for while we are at work.
Also training methods, we found a self titled "bull breed specialist" in our area and went to a class to just have a view, there was plenty of staffords, pitbulls etc but it was a horrible experience, they were teaching to yell and go grrrrr at it whilst pulling the choker and smacking there backside with the handle of the lead, I nearly cried and im sure Kali nearly fainted. I have patience, probably too much but my husband has next to none ( eg: I laughed when kali ate the back door, he went to pieces) so I have learnt alot from the forums, but hes like talking to a brick wall any advice for my helping my husband would be great!
Have brought every toy recommended for them and cant wait but any extra info anyone could throw at me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much

Welcome congrats on the new addition and remember to take lots of pics for us when you get him home and settled, because we love pics here.
Don't have experience of introducing two dogs together, but it's better if you introduce them outside your house and let them have a sniff first, so they're at ease with each other before you're at home.
The training class sounds terrible, you're best to find one that uses positive methods, or even just do the training at home, yourself. Not sure what to say about your husband; puppies are stressful and take a lot of patience and effort but it's all worth it in the end.

Hello and welcome from me and the kids , be lovely to see some pics of yours . Certainly would steer clear of this training class unless you want a dog to be scared of you and turn round and bite you one day

Hi & welcome.
The first bit of advice is.......never go back to that training class again! I take it you're not in the UK if there were pit bulls in the class?
The second bit of advice is.....have a look through our training forums & see the tips for dealing with various behaviours, then be consistent with whatever training you do. Everybody must do exactly the same thing with training or your pup will get confused!
Third bit of advice.....get a crate - it saves a lot of damage through chewing!

Hi and a big wwelcome to you, bet your dead excited about the new pup, I would agree with the others, introduce outside of the home and walk them together first before taking them indoors. That training class sounds like its straight from hell, poor Kali and poor you, avoid that one like the plague.
As for your husband, did he agree to having the new pup, beccause if he did bless him he hasn't really got a leg to stand on! If he's not that keen then I don't think I would like to be in your shoes when theres only three legs on the dining room table Best of luck!!

Welcome! From Budly and myself... Pup will be fine, so long as he's loved and fed, with plenty of activity. All the best, and good luck with your husband..

Hi and welcome.
I don't know about introducing dogs-we have only Callie- but can comment on the reluctant husband. Train, train, train your puppy. Lots of love and positive reinforcement, but don't allow the behaviors your husband will hate (though you might not mind them as much). Lots of chew toys so his things don't get trashed. Crate when you cannot supervise for same reason...
My husband is head over heels about Cal now. It started after a few weeks, really took a few months.
And I agree about the trainer! Isn't the point to make sure these breeds are socialized to be friendly and Not aggressive?
