springer spaniel attack
took noah out this morning over highgate common, on the lead as met many dogs over the last couple of week when we came across a springer, both dogs were excited , but seemed normal, as soon as they came nose to nose the springer sunk its teeth straight into our dogs nose and hung on for what seemed like ages , lots of blood and wailing , the blood stopped after 3/4 minutes , and he was whimpering for about 5minutes , the couple gave us there number for insurance and we whisked noah of to the emergency vet for 2 injections and a course of antibiotics.
apart from a swollen nose and 2 puncture marks he seems ok, the springer had never done anything like it before (or so they told us) its just put us of him meeting other dogs and how it may affect him when he does come across other dogs...........

Re: springer spaniel attack
It's funny how these things have never happened before isn't it.
Rocky is now very nervous when meeting other dogs, just take things steady and keep Noah on the lead, at least when first introducing him to other dogs.
Hope Noah nose will soon be OK, quite a sensitive part of the body that nose.

Re: springer spaniel attack
Oh poor you and Noah, must have been a shock.
I would hope he will bypass the experience and do still socialize him, it was a one off Xx

Re: springer spaniel attack
Oh poor Noah. And still so young to have had this awful experience.
This is something I have been dreading with my own puppy, not only on his own account of course being bitten, but in case it affects his attitude towards other dogs. but about a week ago, Kuchar was nipped on the nose - nothing like the lots of blood and wailing poor Noah had, just a few yelps - and this was from a Patterdale terrier he had made particular friends with.
Kuchar's nose is a little swollen and still shows marks but here's the thing - the other day whilst on a walk Kuchar's nose was on the ground following a trail, and then in the distance I saw the Patterdale. Quite honestly I didn't want to run into him again just yet so hung back, but Kuchar was just desperate to catch up with his "friend".
So here's hoping that these incidents don't put either of our dogs onto the path of DA.
Just keep socialising with other dogs so that Noah knows that ALL dogs won't do this to him, and good luck.

Poor Noah
The worst thing that's happened to Loki is another Staff going for him and giving him a little graze on the leg, so I've been lucky with that. Do you have any dogs Noah hasn't met yet that you know are friendly? If so, then have him meet dogs like that, sniff them, walk with them, etc. and take it slowly from there. I think at his age they bounce back (at least, it seems that way), so hopefully it won't be too bad and once he meets more well-behaved dogs, he'll get over it.

Re: springer spaniel attack
Hope Noah recovers well enough , we had an experience of this on Saturday at our local country park, i hate to say it but it was a Staff a Blue one six months old , we had finished our walk when this guy was dragged over to us on the car park by his Staffy , Duke let him approach and they sniffed each other as they do, the next thing this Blue Staff is showing its teeth at Duke and growling .
The guy said she has never been like this before but judging by the way the dog pulled him over towards us i did not believe him, Duke tried to sniff her again and was once again faced with aggression, i pulled Duke away and used the clicker , Duke sat and i said goodbye to the guy , we shall give him a wide berth if we come across him again .

Re: springer spaniel attack
Hi there, you will find many adult dogs will have a poke at puppies, just to put them in their place. Dont worry its a learning curve for your puppy, its unfortunate that he was nipped but I expect that you and the other owner were more worried about what happened than the pup. Do keep him mixing with other dogs and dont let your human feelings rub off on him

Re: springer spaniel attack
Frankly, we do agility with a Springer and two cocker spaniels and I find all of them to be cheeky and snappy. Thank goodness Tyson gives them the cold shoulder and ignores their silly growls.

Re: springer spaniel attack
A similar thing happened to me last week. I was walking Conan along the canal and a man was walking his collie, Conan got all excited when he saw the other Dog and the man stopped to let them meet, they where fine at first then all of a sudden the collie snapped and bit Conan on his nose. Luckly it was only a nip and he was fine. I was worried that it would put him off socialising but he hasn't been any different, it doesn't seem to have affected him at all.
Hope Noahs OK.
