Disobedience out of the house!!
Hello, bit of a newie here.
I have a 15 month old bitch who is as good as gold (usually), that is until we step out of the house, she pulls on her lead, chases other dogs, chases moterbikes(?!!) and is generally over excited.
I know its probably our fault for not doing something about it when she was younger but now i find it really impossible to walk her on my own because of how strong she is.
I was wondering if you have any tips on how I can stop the pulling and get her to pay attention!
Thankyou!

Re: Disobedience out of the house!!
you really need to go back to basics with her by the sounds of things , sit and stay being the 2 most important to work on and get some high value treats

She certainly isn't too young to re=train but as said you gonna have to start off with the basics, square 1 I'm afraid, but they are fast learners.
Hiya and welcome from me and Moo, maybe you come and introduce yourself

Do you use a collar or a harness when walking ? I find a harness is easier when I'm walking Rocky on my own.
Back to basics would be a very good idea, never to old to learn.

Re: Disobedience out of the house!!
Thanks everyone. She knows the basics, sit, stay etc but only choses to listen to us in the house!
We use a harness but i find she pulls harder on that, we were using just a usual collar but it was cutting into her neck with all the pulling.
.. I will be over to introduce myself now

Re: Disobedience out of the house!!
Have you thought of trying her in a wider collar or maybe a halti or canny collar type thing.

Re: Disobedience out of the house!!
Hi,
I am sure with patience she will get better:-)
It would be worth checking what Roxy eats because cheaper types of industrial dog food with various aditives and chemicals can make dogs hyper.
And how much excercise Roxy gets. Stella is getting better now with recall and jumping but when she does not get enough walks she can be a pain. People here usually recommend at least 2 walks 45 minutes each but I feel Stella needs more otherwise she gets too energetic:-)
Stella has this harness, it's soft and comfy:

Good Luck!!! Xx

Yes, what do you give her to eat? Some of the more popular commercial dog foods have ingredients that promote hyperactivity.

Re: Disobedience out of the house!!
I've had the same problem with my staffy - in my case I got him as an unruley 8 month old with no training. Even now he gets over excited and will push boundries - you've just got to stay on top of it.
I would look at getting a canny collar or halti (I use one on my boy) or if you use a harness get one designed to stop pulling - I find normal harnesses worse as they tend to just put all their weight into it and away they go!
I think any dog is capable of being a backyard obedience champion! But its out in public that the training needs to count. I teach the commands at home then put them into practice out in public - make sure to use yummy treats to make it worth while and make it fun - but be firm and consistant at the same time.
Do you have any obedience classes in your area? It would be worth considering them as you will have the help of a trainer as well as being surrounded by other people and dogs in a controlled situation which will all help to teach Stella to be obedient around distactions
