Walk and stop walk and Stop Empty Walk and stop walk and Stop

Post by BobbyLee Sun Oct 14 2012, 09:37

Hi guys and girls

i have picked up something very odd with my girl .
Recently when taking her out for walks she starts off nice and excited for like 10 mins .
Thereafter she will just stand still and look at me .
I will then need to call her and kneel down and bribe her with toys and treats for her to start walking again .
She will then only walk for two minutes and then stop again and il need to bribe her again and again and again .
A 2hour walk turns into a 4hour walk .. lol
At first i thought she was tired, bt then i took her off the lead and she was filled with energy and excitement .
I always keep her on her lead as per law in SA we not allowed to walk our dog at the beach without a lead .
I live close to the beach and take her down there everyday .

Do u think i should change our surroundings and take her somewhere else instead ?

any suggestions will help

Thanks

I wouldn't stop & bribe her. Try taking a favourite squeeky toy (one that she only gets on walkies) and when she stops squeek it & carry on walking, aqueeking it all the time. Or a favourite treat, but don't stop - that's exactly what she wants you to do! Big Grin

If necessary give her a few little tugs with the lead (using a harness rather than a collar of course) & encourage her with plenty of silly voice talking.

You can try holding a treat in a closed fist. Let her smell it and start walking, she should follow and after a time let her have the treat. Repeat when it is needed.
