I have a german sheppard pup, 9 months old on her way for emergency fostering. She`s been beaten and kicked and is in very bad shape. Any home remidies you can think of to calm her down enough for a look over and a bath?

Thats a tough one. I'd wait until she came to you and use food as a bond. Just go slow and build trust

I guess it`s lucky I have treats and fruit salad then. I`ve got incense burning too. And a heat pack on the spare dog bed. It`s just that it is 12 at night so no where to run out and get stuff.

I wouldn't bath her until she's a bit less anxious. Sad The look-over you can give by way of petting & working your way around her. Poor little thing.

You could try some lavender essential oil - a couple of tiny drops on her chest & a couple of tiny drops on her bedding.

Good idea. The only thing is I probably will only have her over night as I have found her a forever home and I want her to look her best and she is prettymatted and probably uncomfortable.

Would also suggest the lavender oil, it's very good for calming stress. Lots of peace and quiet and maybe a shoulder massage when you can get closer to her.

Better that she's untidy/dirty than stressed out!

Peace and quite is the only way to go with a dog like this, definately do not bath her, it will just make her worse and reinforce her opinion not to trust humans. If you can do TTouch then do it as much as you can.

A house lead may help as well, you will be able to pick the lead up and lead her to were you want her to go encouraging her all the time, you will be setting her up to succeed and help her to trust humans more.

Do you have a photo of her, I can send her Reiki which will help if you do but I need a photo to connect with her.

German Shepherds are very sensitive dogs, they need very gentle handling and soon get upset if they feel threatened.

Well done for doing this for her. thumbs up

Ok she`s here we have spent an hour socialising her. She is ver under weight so she has been fed. I found some all natural dog relaxation pills so put on of them in herfood. She has gone from not getting out of the car to giving me kisses. No bath for her as she is way too stressed out. Keeely is terrified of her. She is covered in scars. We have found out that she has bitten people before so slowly and as relaxed as possible here. She is obviously pick of the litter as she is stunning. She will be de sexed some time this week and we will keep her quiet here till she`s able to travel to her forever home. I will post pics and updates when I can get her to sit still. I can see this being a very long morning.

Well it has been very interesting day... So we got her and she was very stand off ish, no the only one who can go near her is my partner. They have bonded insanely well. Me on the other hand has been bitten once (for getting dressed) and now can't`t move because if I go near either of them share bares her teeth and growls. She has been brushed seeing as she was matted (whole process took us 3 hours, she is covered in scars and only has half a tongue. The only way she will sleep is with my partner on the couch. She has attacked Keely a few times over food and because she wants to be `the one'. Keely and I now sit quietly. All in all she is a tiny traumatised beautiful dog, (also a bit of a smart * as she opened the front door to go out with my partner). She is being de sexed Monday. And tomorrow is going to a professional German Sheppard trainer as I can`t send her to her new home like this. Any ideas are incredibly welcome as I think I am out of my limit and haven't had a dog this bad before.

Without seeing her body language etc I wouldn't like to give advice, especially as she won't be staying with you, so it's a short term fix.

She sounds extremely traumatised. I'm sure with professional help, though, she'll make it through.
