Hello from Bailey
Hi all, we got our 10 month old Staffie- Bailey, three weeks ago from a dogs home. We had been talking about getting a dog for years- well my partner was, im a cat person! However the thought of getting my old man off the sofa, won me round. We looked at lots of dogs, but when my partner saw a photo of Bailey, he said that’s the dog! I must admit I was taken aback, A STAFFIE!!!!! Ok- I admit I had all the prejudices that the forum is trying to get rid of about these dogs I was totally against it, but was persuaded to have a look, and the rest is history. When I walked into the room and he looked at me and had that big grin that all Staffies seem to have, my heart melted, my prejudices disappeared and I think he’s the best thing that has happened to us as a family. My (grown -up) children love him, my partner and I are behaving as if we have a new baby, cooing over him, finding everything about him fascinating. The only fly in the ointment is that my cat is truly not talking to me, although Bailey keeps trying to be pals, being very respectful of her, being submissive when she is close, but if he gets to close for her comfort he gets swiped, he then comes running to me or my partner, and looks at us, as if to say why is she being so mean? Any way we hope they will eventually get on- any help on that would be appreciated. I can not believe that I had got it so wrong about these dogs, I am a post woman and have had my fare share of dogs being- a pain- But I will say since getting him I have had mostly positive comments from people, total strangers out walking their dogs have stopped to chat, saying what a shame they have a bad name, as Bailey is so obviously very social able with both people and other animals.
To sum up; we are very proud to have Bailey in our life he really has enriched us.

Re: Hello from Bailey
Welcome Bailey is a handsome dog, and fantastic that you were willing to see what he was like and that it changed your opinion of them. About the cat, I can't really help, but if he's being respectful of the cat, then maybe they'll get along after she's used to him.

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
Staffys certainly are a misunderstood breed of dog, I can relate to this as I too must admit to being a bit ignorant to them before I got to know one.

Re: Hello from Bailey
Hi & welcome!
Lovely introduction - Bailey sounds an angel.
I can't help with the cat I'm afraid - I've never been a cat person & if one came into our house Dempsey would eat it!

Thank you all for the welcome, Caryll my cat has enough to contend with, with Bailey! Although in his case it would be a game of chase or licked to death!!!

Re: Hello from Bailey
Hi to you and Bailey, he sounds like a lovely dog! We had our two staffs after the cats and all of them get on ok with the dogs.... some of them better than others. All of them still belt the dogs around the head if they get a bit bolshy, but the cats still come and share the dog food and wash the dogs. Just takes a bit of time. Good luck!
