So.....
Cesar Milan is a bit off isn't he? Doing a bit of pootling on the net just at various training stuff and stumbled on a few critics of him (by a few I mean a ton). Then I watched the How not to deal with food aggression vid link on here to see what he's all about.
What the heck is up with him? Glad I've never watched dog whisperer now, no whispering there, more like dog control freak!! Just wanted to express my opinion on the strange man..

Re: So.....
Not one of my favourite people either, have never liked his methods, he is very OTT bordering on animal cruelty if you ask me.

Re: So.....
Jesus christ! Thats insane behaviour.
When I saw him try and take that poor dogs food away I thought imagine if you were at home tucking into dinner and someone came up to you acting friendly then tried to snatch your food away and stand over you! What does he expect really? Now I can understand wanting to modify the behaviour of a family pet because the aggression could lead to someone getting bitten thus resulting in sadness all round, not least for the dog who would perhaps be put down, but surely there are other ways to deal with it that don't result in an actual fight with an obviously terrified dog!! I saw fear in that dog, not aggression.

Re: So.....
I totally disagree, I love the guy, although I haven't seen ALL his episodes I have a DVD set and have seen 5/6 seasons I currently don't see a problem. I haven't sen him physically harm a dog, although his methods are a bit ott they do work. Fact! I suppose it goes down to personal taste. He on his 9th series so ,use be doing something right

Re: So.....
I never watched it minus a few clips, but I always assumed I'd like him because I go on this woman's site who trains her dogs following his general ideas (though she never uses physical means), but after seeing clips, it's obvious that this isn't the right way to deal with a dog. By that I mean, it might work for some dogs, but for others it'll just cause the dog to shut down, or...well, he's been bitten a few times, so that right there shows that they're not methods people should try on their own. I think even if it works, what's the point when you can deal with dog's problems without hurting them?
The thing is, his corrections are harsh. I wouldn't go as far as to say he hurts them, but some dogs do better with this type or that type. Not to mention I've heard of god knows how many people using his techniques on their dog when they're not trained to do so; he may not be directly causing harm, but it allows other people to do so. Anyway, I don't think he's a bad person, it's obvious he cares for the dogs and thinks he's helping, I just think no-one actually needs to be that harsh.

I've seen clips of him kicking & punching dogs & generally 'getting in their face'. The kicking & punching is totally out of order & the 'dominating' behaviour he uses is likely to get many people bitten, maybe badly, when they try to do it themselves.
His methods are almost antiquarian.

Agreed!
I imagine he does think it's the right thing to do, thing is I don't enjoy seeing someone get bitten anymore than I enjoy seeing a scared dog looking that confused about what's going on and becoming aggressive. I suppose he must have helped a lot of people, but I do worry that the owners will be left trying the techniques and getting injured. I think because our dogs are family, you wouldn't be so harsh with any other family member if they were acting out you would find another way. I think generally punching and kicking your relatives is frowned upon?

Don't worry about the quotes - we all know what you mean!
As to the toilet trips in the ungodly early hours, I'm just glad I don't have to do that any more (until the next pup comes along!). Mind you, I still have to get up at 4am as my oh is on permanent early shift!

Yes, I've seen his 'touch' methods - the ones where the 'touch' actually lifts the dog off its feet with a yelp! It's a kick, no matter how you look at it!
No point trying to look it up - the video of him doing it was removed shortly after it went viral for 'legal' reasons. ie he didn't want people to see it.
