All the time Lisa, you're quite right it's the tone of your voice that counts. Just as you could read the sports news from a newspaper to a baby to get them to sleep, it's all in the tone not what you say.

The things I call Dempsey & say to him, you wouldn't believe - complete & utter nonsense! But his ears still shoot up & he wags his tail.

I think we all do, I was singing to her on our walk today, its very easy to change words in songs to Moo, she goes scatty! Its when I bump into another walker and haven't realised they are there

Guilty.....especially when I'm doing the housework or cooking etc,I jibber on to Percy about anything and everything and he seems to be very interested in it all. Which I'm glad about as its better than talking to myself lol x

I have full on conversations with Cal and he just sits there and lets me waffle on, most of the time I actually reply for him as well!! He seems to enjoy it though lol!

Re: Do you ever talk nonsense to your dog?
I don't talk nonsense like baby-talk or whatever, but I'll just say random, normal things to Loki for no reason other than to have someone to talk to...and he either ignores me or wags his tail and will sometimes try to jump up on me or play

Would seem were all "those strange dog people"
In truth ive cuddled em and spoken with them, talk to them on walks, sing to then "quite badley" but they are my loving audiance. And even say good morning to them as im standing out in cold waiting for them to go...

My OH gives them little instructions when he goes out and thinks that they understand and do what they are asked. So funny he is in the land of the mad. Brings the saying Mans best Friend as they listen and do not judge

I make up and sing songs to her and the cats, and tell them all they are each my most favoritist, beautiful pretty girls in the whole wide world. I also call her stinky puppers and she seems to really like that. So yes, I do talk total gibberish to all of my little pets.

I sing to Ralph all the time, but I take a song and change the words so it's about him...
He's got the whole world, in his paws... lallaaaalaa!

Re: Do you ever talk nonsense to your dog?
I also enjoy making up foreign sounding names for her, particularly as though she was aristocracy. For example, one of my favorites is Pupperamovich Vitivitsky (Russian oligarch/royalty)or Stinky Von Pupperpants (of the Hapsburg Empire puppers). But then I also enjoy more down to earth names like Pupper McDougalstein.
No wonder she has recall issues, she has no idea what her real name is.
