just had a lovely talk with the police.
Been to the festival down the road with the boys as it's great for Chance and just starting to walk out home when i got stopped by the police and asked to move out the way to answer all the questions.
I got asked if my 'pitbull' was registered, to which i said what pitbull, i knew they meant Chance to which i explained he's an ambull and they'd never heard of the breed. But they asked loads of questions, is he microchipped, neutered, do i let him off lead. They did say i'm a responsible owner as Chance had his muzzle on and i got asked where my poo bags where. Also could i prove he's a rescue with paper work and if he's registered at a vets etc etc.
After all that they said they couldn't do anything as i'm responsible with the muzzle and being on lead, the dogs were well behaved and they'd not be reported, plus i have all my paperwork and they can't prove his breed either way.
So interesting walk shall we say

Sounds like you were well ahead in that one Ella , and they need to brush up on their knowledge a little

I'm not bothered to be honest, so i suppose if you play up to them they would prob take it further but meh it's all good

Well done for staying so calm Ella, and knowing what your talking about, I would have been a nervous wreck!

Is it a legal requirement to carry a poo bag these days?

You've avoided a charge under section one of the PACE Act (Pee and Canine Excrement Act).

South Yorkshire police must be the worst force in the country, don't know were they get all the monkeys from but they do seem to have a lot.

Must have been annoying at least. Great that you were able to answer all of their questions and show that you're a responsible owner regardless

Re: just had a lovely talk with the police.
This is a perfect example of how being a responsible owner has a knock on effect to the life of the dog!! In my opinion if all owners were as responsible as Ella then there would be fewer of our dogs in rescue centres!!

You handled it well mate. I get fed up with numpties and sct one, id have been drawing grapghs and whipping out the tape measure. Thing is very few beat know defra guidlines so throwing them off with facts is an easy thing. Your approach is best though as it placates the situation. I have 3 friends, met, beat cop and a special and they all say they would throw me in the cells for bring a git.. At least there honest lol

Re: just had a lovely talk with the police.
Since you and Chance were doing nothing wrong, why on earth would the police pull you to one side? Just cos they thought it was a Pitbull??
glad all turned out well for you.

Because any dog that they believe too be pitbull type can if the police want too seize it by law, 2 more were seized from a resuce the other day , This poop law is based upon looks alone, dosnt matter if you have the worlds friendliest dog .

I thought that was only happening in Americal not England
I see a few pitbulls about and they are so friendly. Really, they should seize those humans who are not fit to own dogs of any kind! That question they asked re the vets, I am aware vets have a list of danger dogs they are not suppose to treat, so being with a vet is a safe thing for our dogs, correct me if I am wrong.

Re: just had a lovely talk with the police.
well done Ella, shame you had to go through it.
Maybe they thought they could make an example of you because you aren't a nasty little creep that would have mouthed off to them and your dogs were well-behaved, so that the nasty little creeps that were nearby (if any) would see they meant business. Whatever that means for the police these days.

Honestly I think their first priorty is the dangerous dogs of which mine weren't, so I guess those with dogs to hide won't do little things like register at the vets. So I don't no it's obviously better to be at a vets but would it stop them nope.

Re: just had a lovely talk with the police.
This makes me sad. If our own law enforcement officers have no idea, how can we expect society in general to know?
Before I was even a dog owner, and before I'd spent a lot of time researching, I'd *know* that an owner with a dog on lead and muzzled was responsible. TBH, I also feel that the dog owners I've met with their dogs off lead are responsible - they know their pet. If they were going to cause any issues or trouble, they'd be back on lead in a shot.
I guess each case is different, but lordy, maybe the policeman had nothing more to do - maybe they should be presented with a definitive guide to Dog Breeds... They can catch up in their tea break.
