Why can't I get her to just walk on the lead
OK so my Puppy is now 12 weeks old, we take her out and for about 30 steps she walks brilliantly on the lead and the STOP... How do I overcome this behaviour?? I have had dogs before and never had this problem or is this the stubborn staffie stage?? Any ideas??

Just keep encouraging her. It's all so new!
Take a squeeky toy with you or some treats & tempt her forward when she stops. But don't forget that she should only be getting about 5 minutes lead walking per month of age, three times a day!

It's not a stubborn staffie age you just have a pup that is unsure about the big outside world Lots of treats and praise and patience required here. How long have you been taking her out ?? Did you do a lot of garden time on lead first ??
Does she have a playmate that you could walk with to help her along ??
Tilly was difficult to get started but Tommy was easy as he just wanted to be with his big sister

Just keep encouraging her with treats and a squeaky. If she cold walk with a friend that would also help. If not just be patient and don't force things.

It is a big, scary world out there, especially if the pup has been kept at home during the vaccintion period, that is the age when they need to be taken out and about but carried not on the ground. That gives them a big advantage once they start to go for walkies.
Encourage your pup, speak in a happy voice to her, let her investigate things if she wants to. If possible get someone with a calm dog to walk with her.
She will soon be enjoying her walkies.

If she stops, give her a moment to look around. She's probably unsure of it all and just wants to take in all of the sights, sounds and smells. But if after a moment she's not moved on, just coax her with treats or a toy. Loki used to do this, but once you passed the end of our road, he was like, "Oh forget it, we're too far to go back now, I'll just have to walk"

Jelly did the same thing - sometimes I would wait for other people with older dogs to come by and "borrow" them LOL She eventually got the hang of it, but she still has to be coaxed along now and then if there is lots to sniff on the ground or she just doesn't want to go.
Then the leash biting and pulling starts (maybe - not, if you're lucky). We're going through that now. Some days she's good, some not but it's hopefully just a phase and like everything else, just needs consistent correction/encouragement to get them through. AND PATIENCE!!

I had the same with my 5 month old rescue (now 1yr)
I just gave him time plenty of encouragement treats or toys it took time but he now walks to the park although big vehicles and motorbikes are still a little scary but the park is a big reward

Re: Why can't I get her to just walk on the lead
She is so young! From my experienced perspective (hardly, Cal is 7 months)...we are still very much working on lead walking.
She used to stop and sit anytime I pulled her back or turned around. She stopped that at 4 or 5 months I think.
I think the advice above, treats and encouragement, is great.
