Hii Everyonee!!
Hi Staffie Lovers,
I'm new to this and I came across this forum on a whim to try and find some answers as to why my beloved Staffie has pointy ears. I'm convinced she's not a full breed (as the breeder said she was) and i'm convinced she's cross with a pitbull or the likes.
My Staffie is called Sasha, Sash, Splash and so on... she turned 1 this August and she's lovely. Having a bit of trouble with her fur shedding but hopefully this is just because of the heat. A white dog on black fabric sofas is an absolute nightmare!!!
So we've had Splasha in our family since she was 8 weeks and even when we didn't have her properly whilst she was a small pup, the breeder sent regular emails of her development.
As she's grown up, I have noticed a couple things that are worrying me and I hope one of you lovely people can give me an idea of what to do/use;
1) As she is white, on her head it seems as though there isn't much fur and her skin is quite red.
2) Pointy ears, not convinced she full breed and quite miffed as we paid full breed price for her!!
Also, what is the best food to give Staffordshire's? We currently give her half wet, half dry and this doesn't give her the shiny, silky smooth coat as she is supposed to.

Re: Hii Everyonee!!
Hi there & welcome.
Sasha looks so cute, I love her ears!
Staffs in general have very short fur, and a white dog's skin shows through far more clearly through the fur than a dark coloured dog's does. This is because of skin pigment which is pinker with a white dog.
As for her ears, staffs are, occasionally, born with * ears. It isn't usual and it's certainly a fault as far as the breed standard is concerned, but it isn't necessarily a pointer to being crossed. And don't worry, if she were crossed with a pitbull her ears would still be folded.
Re: food, what are you feeding her now, which brand?

Hello from Me & tail wags from Taz. We hope you enjoy the forum !!
Taz is white and often looks like a little pink piglet when she is warm - not sure if this is what you mean ..or if she has bald patches ?
Not sure about the ears - but if you have no papers there really is no way of telling. pitbulls are banned in the Uk and generally don't have pointy ears either
I feed raw, but there is a list of dry food here http://staffy-bull-terrier.co.uk/dryfood.html

At the moment, we are feeding her on Tesco's own brand for the wet dog food and Wagg for the dry dog food. We would be happy to change this, if these foods are the wrong brand/type to give a Staff.

Re: Hii Everyonee!!
Not the best, I'm afraid! In general, anything you can get from the Supermarkets isn't going to be very good.
You could try Fish4dogs - more expensive, but good for the skin & digestion, Wainwrights from Pets at Home, or have a look through the following...

Re: Hii Everyonee!!
As Caryll says the supermarket stuff , wagg, etc is rubbish , my 2 have been on Wainwrights since they were ickle and been absolutely fine (Tilly has a super shiney coat) just recently changed over to Fish 4 dogs due to boredom and a step up the food ladder

Re: Hii Everyonee!!
I don't think pointy ears is an indicator that she's a cross, but even if she is, definitely not with Pitbull, they have the same ears as Staffs.
The pink is normal, I'd say. Loki has one white paw and you can see the pink through it, and same with an old Boxer we had named Cassie, who was mostly white.
Waggs, Bakers, etc., is meant to be crap. I feed Loki Wainwright's and haven't had any problems, I don't think, and it's said to be a pretty good one. Obviously if you can afford something more expensive and better quality, go for it, but Wainwright's is meant to be good and is a good price.
Oh, and welcome

Re: Hii Everyonee!!
Hiya fellow newbie, welcome from me and Bosco.
A friend of mine has a staffy with permanently pointed ears just like your Sasha and i know for certain she is full SBT since i know both the sire & dam very well, it's not too common but it does happen.
As "AnattyRat" has said Wainwrights is a pretty good food and good value for money, I'm pretty sure it's all hypoallergenic and i know of dogs that are doing very well on it.

Hi and welcome.
Don't know much about ears. Callie's snout is white and the pink underneath definitely shows through--she even got a bit of a sunburn at the beach!
