How to teach Percy to roll over?
Hi, Percy And I have loads of fun learning new tricks, but the roll over we just can't figure out? Does anyone have any good tips on teaching this one? I tell him down and then try moving a treat over his head so his body will follow it but it doesn't get us anywhere, I've tried waving the treat round in a circle from a stand position and from down position but neither seem to get him to roll over.
We're still having loads of fun trying and Percy looks at me as if I'm a complete loony when we're trying the roll over
Thanks everyone
Lou x

I got Bailey to roll over by first getting him to lie down, then holding the treat above his head and moving it to the side and just persevering with it, I also cheated a bit by slightly rolling him over aswell just remember if he doesn't do it, he doesn't get the treat!

I got Zeus to first sit.. then lie down.. and then I kept rolling him over myself whilst I kept saying the word 'rollover'. Everytime he done a complete roll, he got a treat. At first, he didn't know what was going on and hated me rolling him over lol, but he got the hang of it eventually.

Re: How to teach Percy to roll over?
not mastered it myself , Tilly lays there like a brick and when I try to roll her over she just looks as if to say "what !!! I've sat, I've lied down and now you want to poke me in the tummy you stupid moron !!" so we tend to leave it there. I would love the dogs to do more tricks but at the moment , sit, down, come back , give paw seems to be all they want to learn , oh and steal daddy's seat , hog the bed, fart , dig the garden and bark at your lipstick but they seem to be self taught

Re: How to teach Percy to roll over?
Hiccup loves rolling over, was the easiest trick to teach him. I would teach him from a relaxed lying down position (legs to one side) and then I found the best was to bring a treat over his shoulders cause then he would look behind him for the treat and start the process =)

Re: How to teach Percy to roll over?
Basically the same as the poster above - start from a relaxed lying position and coax with hand gestures and food.

Re: How to teach Percy to roll over?
Does your staff love tummy luvvins? I taught Rolo to roll over by getting her to sit, lie down then rubbing her belly and saying roll over if she did shed get a treat if not I'd 'help' her over while saying roll over thang shed get a treat. Never tried with Rueb cos he's a lazy sod and we're still teaching Cleo the basics like stay! The funniest thing with Rolo is that her name sounds similar to roll over so when the kids call her name twice she gets confused and starts rolling over!
Another funny one to teach is to say the grace before feeding them! First get them to sit and wait while the food bowl goes down, then say 'Amen' with a hand movement. Gradually increase the wait between setting the food down and saying amen until you can say grace! If you get what I mean? It's very funny and a good party trick for when friends are over

Re: How to teach Percy to roll over?
We're abt 80 % there with the roll over....sometimes it's not a complete roll he's gets Onto his back with his legs up in the air and then just stays there ...so I just give him a little push to complete the roll
Will get some pics/videos of it tomoz
Thanks for all your ideas
