genuine attempt to be a wind up merchant, or is it coincidence? Empty genuine attempt to be a wind up merchant, or is it coincidence?

Post by patchofthedale Mon Sep 10 2012, 00:02

Tonight....

I went to the kitchen for a bit of toast, came back in to the livingroom and patch had moved from the floor to the sofa which i always tell him not to go on (soft leather and claws, nooooo)

he walks about the livingroom, lies on the carpet and walks about some more

"Patch, go lie down in your bed boy" he walks through to my room, past his bed and jumps up on my

this happened three times with me asking him through then telling him to go to his bed

I then lay on the carpet on my laptop only to find he had walked over me and lay down on top of me

"do you mind patch boy?"

he then goes and lies with an old house coat that i gave him rather than his bed being dragged in to the livingroom and grumbles at me under his voice

Is this normal behaviour?

Yeah fairly normal. You will have to set the rules and follow them every time if you don't want them on the furniture.

I've been setting the furniture rules from the off, keep waking up to a dogs backside in my face when I'm sleeping though, or tonight's speciality, the dog decided "hmm he's in the kitchen, think i will just jump up on the sofa" i ended up letting him on the sofa for an hour on the old house coat i gave him, but realised after i had to move to the floor with him taking up the entire sofa and snoring through the tv program that i was trying to watch, he was simply going to over rule me, decided to be consistent with the furniture, though he has that look he gives you that makes you feel guilty, when infact he is the one that is chancing his paw

They like warm spots, luckily I got a king bed and he took right to it. Once he gets it warm and sprawls out, forget it, he isn't moving

Sounds quite normal to me and Rocky of course.

Rocky loves to have his cuddles and we have a leather sofa that he goes on and hasn't scratched it yet, and it is light cream coloured. He does love to now curl up in the corner of the sofa for a little snooze in the evening.

There's on way we could refuse him going on there now.

We made it very clear to Fiver that he is not allowed upstairs or on the furniture. You have to be consistent with this with any dog and especially with Staffies who simply crave attention and affection. My little belter never attempts to get on the furniture though he will try to climb on you if you're sat on it but he is always told to get down if he does.

Trouble with Staffs they do have the look that makes you feel guilty if you don't let them snuggle with you. We have ended up buying a Super King bed as two staffs sleeping on a double didn't leave us that much room. As for the sofas, as soon as we sit down we each have a dog all to ourselves stretched out with their heads resting on some part of our anatomy. I have bought two big fluffy throws though to try and protect the leather sofas a bit Smile

Our dog des loves the sofa, especially if I get up he lies on the bit I have sat in. We have rules so if we want space he has a bed on the floor to sit in. Also he sometimes wants space and sits in the hallway/bed -so we are lucky he doesn't crave too much attention.
His favourite pastime is curling up between us like a cat and snoring loudly, I can't believe how small he can curl up!
He normally gets up to mischief more when we are out, aka he gets bored! So lots of chew toys etc

We have just had a rescue Staffie a week ago,she loves cuddles on the sofa with us,she alternates her cuddles between the two of us...

When we go to bed she has a cuddle on the bed, while we chat for a bit, then dad lifts her into her own bed for the night, where she stays as good as gold all night...

Someone had lost this little Staffie, 2-3 years old (she was a stray )but I believe she must have had a good loving home before...but,they did not have her chipped, she must have run off from her owners )!!....so lost her to the pound, then she was saved by a rescue home for Staffies..and we rescued her from there...

She has bought us joy all week, and will I'm sure continue to do so...
