Re: Bodhi at 10 weeks.
Lovely pup. Flynn is 12 weeks now. Is your pup one for jumping at you suddenly and trying to take a nip out of you? Then, when you tell him No, he will stand you off and growl at you, and keep trying to bite your hands? Not sure if this is a trait of the terrier - I know they do this, cos the guys on here have been great in advising me, but he seems to be getting worse and trying it on more, and he is trying to chew on my other two dogs and then barks and snarls big time at them when they tell him off! My vet put me off saying he could be a cross, and if crossed with a pit bull he is classed as a dangerous animal and all sorts of stuff goes on (police assessment, courts etc). Then she said they can be really nice, but if you're not sure what they are crossed with, they can just turn. If this is just a normal puppy thing then hopefully good training will see this stops before long. If it is an aggressive thing bred in him, I don't know what else to do.

Re: Bodhi at 10 weeks.
PS: He does go on the 'naughty step' (outside in the kitchen for a cool off period when he is really out of control), and I am trying to train him in his crate (never for punishment though). It is heart wrenching when he starts crying though cos he doesn't want to be in the crate - he wants to be where the rest of the 'pack' is.

Re: Bodhi at 10 weeks.
Hi Flynnsmum,
I'd say normal puppy behaviour, Bodhi can be all loving and gentle then the next min is a complete devil, jumping, nipping then all the back chat when you tell him off. We are just being consistant in what we do mainly just telling him no and then ignoring him he hates being ignored though will try it on a couple more times before he calms down again. Perseveerance, yes it does get a bit tedious but the end results will be worth it. Keep up the training they will get there in the end. x

Re: Bodhi at 10 weeks.
Oh thank you so much for that. This blooming vet has made me worry by talking about aggression. They do try you - he tries and tries, but I put him in the kitchen for a minute to 'cool down' when he tries to walk all over and bite the two spaniels, and he comes back in (usually) calmer! He is lying on the sofa with them now, snoring! His 'shouting back' at me and trying to bite was what worried me but I am standing up to him now that I know what to do, and yesterday I turned my back on him and he calmed down then too. You are right - it takes time and perseverance but I will keep at it, now I know what to do, thanks to you guys on here. X

Re: Bodhi at 10 weeks.
PS: Due to my health problems (and age) we may have to rehome him (my other half is away most of the time now), so I asked a friend of mine if her and her husband (who is at home during the day - no children), wanted to take him on, because I want him to go the most wonderful, caring home (hence me taking him on in the first place). She said No way - can't stand 'those type of dogs - too aggressive - they're awful." Really upset me that. I told her the ones that she is thinking of have not been trained and looked after properly, and these are the most loving, loyal and protective dogs. I hope others don't think the way she does. He is lovely. If he has to go I will be choked.

Re: Bodhi at 10 weeks.
I know. I have an illness that entails a lot of periods in bed and the springers are used to that, but also my other half was around a lot more. He now has a job where he is away for a long time and can't help (needed to take the job with the climate the way it is - of all the times for it to happen - and I need a hysterectomy but I can't even find the time to do that at the moment cos of the other two dogs. Whilst writing this I have just had a call from the Police as my vet had to contact them to get Flynn assessed, and they are calling out to see him on Saturday! He said if he is crossed with a pit bull there are courts to go through etc. If that is the case I will fight them tooth and nail with everything I have left in me, to ensure he doesn't end up getting put down. They said I can't even rehome him unless and until they verify he doesn't show any traits of pit bull, and they can't usually say for sure until about 8-9 months. Poor little man. I'm devastated.

Re: Bodhi at 10 weeks.
what!!! so they are going to make you keep him until he's 9 months old and then possibly say hes pit-bull type and try to take him??
Thats not on, I would use the time you've got between then and now to go and see as many breed experts, rescues, breeders etc and get them to asess him privately. At least this way you know what to expect from the police's opinion and some back-up from other people if they try and take him.
Also try to take him to see a behaviourist at 4/5 months and get him a clean bill from them. Get them to write a statement saying he's balanced and well behaved with no aggresive tendancies etc. All you can do really is be prepared and have loads of evidence that he's not a pit. At least you know when they are likely to come and assess him.

Re: Bodhi at 10 weeks.
I told him I had a friend of a friend who breeds Staffy's and she is going to call me, and I will arrange to have him checked by her. I told him I know there are plenty of staffy/pit crosses, and in fact a pit bull that was sold by another person I know, without any problem. He was this was AGAINST THE LAW! That he must come to see him to assess him and I can't do anything else with him. He said they have found people with these sort of dogs, and taken the dogs and had to put them down!!! He wants to see him now so he can give his professional opinion cos I said I am not waiting till 9 months to be told he is crossed with a pit, and then told to put him down or drag it through the courts etc. My other half is away and I told him what happened - he is devastated too, although he knows more about the Dangerous Dogs Act than I do and told me that this is exactly what he was worried about. I took this little man away from a home where he wasn't going to be looked after properly, and now goodness knows what will happen. The policeman said that unscrupulous sellers are breeding these dogs with pit dogs, and selling them under the heading of, e.g. Irish Blue (which is what my sis was told - she didn't have a clue as I don't), and it means they are not pure Staffy and therefore illegal. I will see what this guy says on Sat and then take it from there. THANKS VERY MUCH LOVE for taking the trouble to help on this. X
