Increasing insurance costs Empty Increasing insurance costs

Last year I insured Bailey with M&S for £9.50 per month for their top rated policy which I thought was quite reasonable. They've just sent through the renewal form however and it has jumped to £16.99 even though I have never made a claim and she is just three years old now. I phoned up to enquire why it was so much higher and the basic answer that kept coming back was that it was mainly down to being a staffie. Has anybody else seen this kind of jump in premiums? Any suggestions on where to go?

Did you also get a first time customer discount on line last year?

Dempsey's was with M&S last time & they increased his renewal by £14 per month - partly cause I'd claimed, but also because you don't get the new cistomer discount.

Yes I did get the first time discount last year but that only accounts for 15%. The price here has almost doubled despite no claims and she is still relatively young.

I think most of them have gone up to an extent. Try shopping around - Sainsbury's is pretty good.

I'm with the PDSA at the moment, It was £75 for the year, so around £6.25 a month, I'm actually dreading getting new cover, I'm going to try PDSA again, and hope that as a 'valued' customer I'll wangle a decent price!

Yep.Cairos with pet plan, and it jumped from £21 a month to £26 becuase she is a staffie too angry The only reason i stay with them is becuase shes covered for life,if she needs any ongoing treatments, they will pay.

Is that for the highest level of cover?

It makes me wonder if we will soon be looking at £100 per month a few years down the road seeing how things are going. Cairo is young now so what will they be asking in 5 years time? This premium for having a staffie is ridiculous though because as breeds go they are one of the healthiest out there. I wonder if we are simply more at risk from opportunists making claims for public liability who automatically name any problem dog as a staffie.

As far as I remember yes, if not that it'll be their middle one. I could dig out her papers, but really can't be bothered right now lol

Wow. I have to admit, I was expecting Mollys to be a lot more expensive, I used a comparison site to find the best one.

How much! Surprised And they expect people to take that? They must be mad! I'm with Sainsbury's & they charge me £14 a month for the top cover. Sounds expensive, I know, but that's because Dempsey's a bull terrier & they're even worse to insure than a staff!
