Caucasian Ovcharkas
Anyone here heard of them, known anyone with them, etc.? I came across them online a while back and I've been obsessed with them ever since. They're big, very naturally aggressive dogs that require basically never-ending socialisation to get them used to what is and isn't a threat, otherwise they'll automatically see anything and anyone as a threat. Needless to say, they're not for beginners lol. When I have my own place and am making more money, I'd love to get another dog for Loki to play with having two dogs always seems great, and it'd be cool to have one of these dogs if I thought I was up to it. Anyway, I just think they're brilliant
Wasn't sure if I was allowed to post pics that don't belong to me, so I left pictures out, but if you don't know what they look like, Google them, they look like bears

They are great dogs but even the females weigh at least 45kg or so the size difference would be huge. I've known a few people that have had them before and they can be alot of fun but I would think that BSL would prohibit having them in alot of places.

Re: Caucasian Ovcharkas
Beautiful dogs, but I wouldn't want one. Their temperament makes it difficult to have one in a busy town for example. Too much responsibility (and too much dog food!).

I'd never heard of them but they look gorgeous. I think the dog would end up walking me though instead of the other way round lol.

Yeah, they are of course a lot of work, and I'm sure even experienced dog owners would be challenged with them, but they seem like they make brilliant dogs if you were able to put that effort into it. They're cool to me anyway, but I'll stick with the less giant dog for now, I'm sure Loki will be able to drag me when he's older if he wanted to

Re: Caucasian Ovcharkas
I have a general rule that if a dog can take me for a walk instead of me walking them that's not the breed for me. They are a great breed though but very misunderstood and on the stubborn side.
I have walked a couple of them and had a hard time keeping control when they tried to pull. If I lived in the country side I would consider it but not in the city.

Oh wow, absolutely stunning. I love the giant breeds but would stick with a mastiff or a newfie cos they have amazing temperaments.

You'll love this Shontelle:
Something very funny that happend to my brother and his wife whilst walking their New Foundland Dog along a beach one day.
All of a sudden the dog jumped into the water and was off looking for something out off the shoreline. Little did my brother know that the dog had seen a surfer in the water, I guess trying out some new moves. The dog must have thought the poor guy was drowning as he went and got hold of him and dragged him out of the ocean and up onto the beach to "Save him"
The surfer was absolutely amazed at what the dog had done and was very apologetic. Bullet the Newfoundland dog had never had any training in sea rescue but must have instinctly known what to do.
I had previously posted this in the jokes section.

Awww I love, love, love newfs, but just don't have the space or the grooming time!
They are so amazing with children and, as you've just shown, very instinctive protectors, particularly in the water.
One day......
