Meet Rocky :-) ? if he is a purebreed
Hi everyone i'm Gemma and this is Rocky my gorgeous doggy who is just over 12 months old. These photos were taken a couple of months ago when we first got him and he has put on a little bit of weight since then. I was just wandering if anyone has any views on if he is a purebreed staffy or not. I've had some people say yes and others say no and i'm just curious. Plus I need to know for pet insurance etc :-) I've looked at pics of staffy's and he seems to have quite long legs in comparison and a slimmer head although i've been told their heads get wider with age??? Thanks in advance for any replies :-)

Re: Meet Rocky :-) ? if he is a purebreed
Hi & welcome to the forum.
So difficult to say! He's at an age where he's still got a lot of filling out to do & they can change a fair bit between 12 months & 2 years!
Did you get him from a rescue centre?

yep, at a year old theres still plenty of growing to do, and they do come in all shapes and sizes (nobody believe me that Lola is 2, she's the size of a 8-12 month old staff, but very leggy and lean) so dont worry too much. do you know much on the parents? or was he a rescue?
he seems to look very staffy-ish to me tho, similar lines and features to Lola

He looks pretty good to me , don't worry about the insurance , just cover him as a staff , as long as your vet agrees you won't have any trouble. Size is hard to gauige unless he's alongside something we know

Hiya and welcome from me and Moo
You'll never know if he is pure breed or not without papers tbh and for insurance, Moo is a rescue and she is still classed as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, even though she is a cross Xx

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. Without papers it's hard to say for sure. You could always say Staffy X for insurance.

As far as the insurance goes, if he isn't KC registered then you can put him down as a crossbreed. Can't prove otherwise!

Re: Meet Rocky :-) ? if he is a purebreed
Thanks that's a good idea as I imagine insurance is cheaper for crossbreeds? And I haven't got papers. We bought him off of a couple who were selling him due to new work commitments and they said he was a staffy but I wasn't sure :-)

Re: Meet Rocky :-) ? if he is a purebreed
He certainly looks like a stafford - a teenage one, leggy & a little lightweight at the moment. He could fill out quite a lot over the next few months, though.
You should probably put him down as a stafford cross.

Hi and welcome to the forum from me and my Rocky.
I was in the same situation as you, Rocky is from a rescue centre and is a Staffy cross, this is how he is insured, as Staffy cross.

Hes lovely, welcome to the forum. And looks to be stafford at the moment! As Caryll says they change so much at that age.

Re: Meet Rocky :-) ? if he is a purebreed
As already said, they come in all shapes and size's, and at 12mths he looks ok to me ... Max is not that chunky, but a bit leggy and muscular with a fair sized head, and has been mistaken for a PB in the past ... despite being 100% KC stafford with a very good 5gen pedigree
He does look lovely, any more pics of him ?

Re: Meet Rocky :-) ? if he is a purebreed
Welcome,
Lola's build was much the same - still is 9 months after she took ownership of me and my house/car/shoes etc. The rescue centre vet thinks there is a bit of whippet thrown in (yes, 'cos we need the extra speed!) but in the absence of anything for sure NFU listed her as staff. The rates were very competive but higher at 1 year than my 2 elderly x breeds at 14 on meds the last year I had them so I wonder if the staff label carries an undisclosed surcharge to cover all the lawsuits we're supposed to be resonsible for (grr)

Ha, bode's older brother lol
As for insurance, without papers, state x breed, as you can only assume either way, and it will save you money.

He is gorgeous and certainly looks as if he has enough of the stafford features to insure him as a staffy X.

Re: Meet Rocky :-) ? if he is a purebreed
He looks great. When growing they go through various stages of growth like the lanky leg stage etc and then they all come to proportion. He is still growing and will now start to fill out rather than grow any taller. I dont worry about what people say about Molly in relation to if she is a staff or pit bull etc. These people obviously have no clue and therefore are not worth taking any notice of.
Just enjoy your Stafford, he is lovely!!

He looks a little like Cal, she's 7 months and definitely in the skinny rather than boxy stage.
