exsport England to Finland...
So for the past year my friend has been baby sitting romeo whenever i needed the help, and now, they have grown so inlove with him, they would like one of their own.
They would dearly like to adopt a dog that needs a home, there is just one problem.... there are no staffs to adpot in finland. This is not a breed here they is over breed and is kind of hard to come by, and remember Romeo cost me close to 2000€.
They were wondering if anyone here knew if it was possible for them to adpot a dog from england and have it brought to finland for a new and better life.
I was thinking, who better to ask them the collective society of us
If there is anything you might know about exsporting out of England to europe, such as flights, cages, vet needs and also about how shelter might see this let us know. My friend is willing to come to england to see the dog and such of cause, we were just wondering if there is any help that can be given now, or if we go through with this if there is anyone who'd like to give us a hand

If she's looking to adopt then I think the answer is going to have to be "No". Most rescue centres will want to do a homecheck at the very least & probably wouldn't be happy about subjecting an already traumatised dog (possibly) to a horrendous journey into the unknown.
If she's looking for a pup, then there are breeders who would be prepared to do it, but it wouldn't be a very young pup - there are age restrictions, I believe, regarding vaccinations etc for the pet passport.
Denise, I know, has exported pups to France, so she might be able to tell you what's involved.

It would be very difficult for a rescue centre here to do a home check in Finland, probably impossible. Any reputable rescue centre here would need to do a home check first before the dog is released. Therefore this is probably out of the question for them.
Another option would be to find a very good breeder here who is willing to let the puppy go abroad, or find a very good breeder closer to home for them. Sorry cannot help with this side of things as I would only ever have a rescue dog. Good luck with it though.

yeah thats what i was afraid of, its a pity though since they have a huge place and are an amazing person who i completely trust romeo with. Its also a pity that people have to do home checks to weed out the stupid who dont desirve a dog... puts stress on people in other countries who want to help out... poor dogs.
Re: exsport England to Finland...
I think there's also the problem of the stress exporting a rescue dog would involve.

Re: exsport England to Finland...
having brought a cat over from the US to the UK, and now having pets in the EU that I would perhaps like to bring in and out of the country with me now and then, I have a bit of experience with this so hopefully this helps.
EU law generally covers it and then the import regulations as imposed therefrom in Finland apply. These links should help:
http://ec.europa.eu/food/animal/liveanimals/pets/nocomm_intra_en.htm
http://www.evira.fi/portal/en/animals/import_and_export/eu_member_countries__norway_and_switzerland/dogs__cats_and_ferrets/
http://www.evira.fi/portal/en/evira/publications/?a=view&productId=300
http://www.evira.fi/portal/en/animals/current_issues/?bid=2851
I imagine if you email or call the Finish regulator for more information they will be able to give you specifics. It's really down to them, not DEFRA here in the UK (or wherever you want to bring the puppy in from).
The EU law link above does give information on age limits, and says in some cases puppies under 3 months old can be imported into a country, but consult the regulator in that country for info. I tried looking around a bit on the Finnish website but it wasn't readily apparent. Even the brochure is quite general.
Good luck! It's easier than you think, especially from EU to EU country. If the pup was coming from a non-EU country, here in the UK for example you would have to wait 6 months at least.

Re: exsport England to Finland...
The info you've given is very useful, but I think Taryn's friend wanted, really, to rescue a dog from a shelter, and I doubt that there would be any shelters who would be willing to take that risk.

Re: exsport England to Finland...
we'll have to see what they decide, but i'll pass this infomation onto them
Re: exsport England to Finland...
ahh OK - her initial post didn't say anything about a shelter, but yeah, that would likely make things more difficult.
Well good luck anyway.

Hi Taryn, they would have to adopt the dog while they are over in the UK and then get the rescue center's go-ahead to export it if they really wanted a rescue dog.

Re: exsport England to Finland...
they decided not to adpot from england, it really was too hard, which is a pity. but we have found a nice 4yr old staff that needs rehoming here in finland. his current owner cant keep him any more, but he comes with baggage... his french bull dog friend who is 3yrs old my friend has decided to take both and them and their room mate are going to share them.
Re: exsport England to Finland...
