What triggers/triggered your dog?
I'm putting this up more out of curiosity and to see what others have found to be their dogs 'trigger' to snap/bite etc. as I feel it could be a useful bit of information. So if you dog has ever snapped/bitten/tried to bite another dog, please say what you think was the trigger and how you have been trying to stop it etc.
For Hiccup, he seems to only have two triggers that I am aware of at the moment.
1) If another dog tries to dominate him, he will usually snap at them but leave them once they leave him alone.
2) If another dog bites him (not always, it seems to depend on the dog and how excited Hiccup is at the time)
Rather difficult to control, I will normally remove Hiccup from the situation on place him on a lead if there is a overly dominant or aggressive dog in the group. I have also discourage 'dominant mounting' on his part (except in play with dogs he normally socialises with but it seems pretty easy to distinguish the two) as I feel he shouldn't try display dominance like that.

Re: What triggers/triggered your dog?
I really cant remember Tyson ever reacting to any triggers but I know he did sometimes in the past. I have just always let him know I control all the situations and today there is nothing (so far) that triggers him. He is totally laid back and shrugs off even mounting behaviour from other dogs. He does have a tendancy to try and be controlling and dominant in situations where the other dog is either anxious or exhibiting unbalanced/nervous behaviour. I then step in and put him in 'time out' on the leash. Usually just a word makes him stop. I never ever let him get away with any form of dominant behaviour. We have both worked really hard on this and now that he is nearly 2, it is paying off.

The one thing that will get to Rocky is another dog staring at him, I just cover his eyes then distract him, get him to sit then give him a treat.
Some dogs look like they are staring anyway, boxers and mastiffs usually so I just avoid going anywhere near them.

We've never really had an issue with Suki unless a dog tried to mount her.

When lexi and my ret bitch had a big fight it was the rets fault. She was always a snobby dog, and would come over to you if lexi was distracted and "claim" you, which * off lexi lol
if out on a walk and she sees another dog she will automatically be on alert, if that dog as much as looks at her she will pull towards them in a low lunge, but if they bark or gurruf at her she goes berserk.
shes never showed any aggression to humans, but she has barked at two men who came to the back gate (the back gate is never used so she barks at anyone who goes to it)

Skye only reacts if another dog tries to dominate her
Buster is another story other dogs especially if they run at him so he gets muzzled and night time (something must of caused him to be scared at night so he won't want any contact at night ) but work in progress

Ledger has snapped once at a new foundland, the owner has never been in control of it and although I always step out of the way and get my boy to sit he allows himself to get dragged over by his dog. It is only a young dog and is very playful but is so big and powerful when he got too close Ledger snapped at his nose he is generally uneasy at dogs that bounce up to him and will grumble at dogs that are dragging their owners around.

Re: What triggers/triggered your dog?
Lola snaps and growls if a strange dog, or one she doesnt see that often, gets too close too quick (usually she's on lead and a boistrous, good natured dog comes over to say hello). once she's set her boundry tho, she will happily get along with most dogs.
mostly tho, if she's on lead and we walk past other dogs on lead, she wont even bother with them, and theres only two dogs she routinely meets but doesnt like, one is a neighbours wiry haired terrier (dont know the breed name) usually soft dog, and the other is an aging staffy we seem to walk past two or three times a week, and both end up at the end of the lead's barking every time (the owners alright, and often comments how he wishes his chunky old girl was as slim and fit as Lola again)

Re: What triggers/triggered your dog?
very similar to some of you, my Lucy doesn't like being dominated. She sometimes misinterprets silly jumping on her back as domination but she listens very well to commands to walk away. we only had a couple of full on incidents where I had to restrain the other dog while asking mine to lie down as the other dogs were really not giving up chasing her but about twice a week she gives warnings at which we just moved on.

Yeah Max seems to be a bit of a starer which gets other dogs backs up i think .. he dosent mean anything by it cus when another reacts to it he just pulls toward them in a playfull manner .. he's never been good at reading the situation with other dogs ... but luckily he is a big softy and never gets aggressive (well not to date )

Re: What triggers/triggered your dog?
Bode is still young at 11 months.
She has always played hard, so when we're out I always see how she, and other dogs react whilst she is on the lead first.
She used to go very submissive whenever a dog showed any aggression towards her or even just tried to dominate.
I have seen her only once now react.
A jack Russell growled and snapped at her whilst introducing her on the lead, her hackles flew up and she snapped right back, as soon as I pulled her back she was fine again, but it has shown me that now she is getting more confident I do need to be aware if other dogs show aggression towards her as she might not always back down now.
