Hannah Hauxwell

I shouldn't think too many of you will have heard of her, but she was the subject of a documentary some 30 years ago. She lived alone on a small farm in the Yorkshire Dales, with no electricity or running water. She became a bit of a celebrity - people really took to her & her simple way of life. She never complained or showed any self pity; life to her was what it was & she just accepted it & got on with it.

Well, I was lucky enough this holiday to meet her. She is the sweetest, kindest old lady I've ever met! She's now sold the farm due to bad health (she's about 85 now) and lives in a small house in a nearby village.

Sometimes you do have to sit back and just appreciate the simple things in life without all the garbage that goes with our lives now.

Sounds like a true charater. Great when you get the chance to meet someone who stands shoulders above most

Wow what an amazing person. Makes me wonder how some of the young ones today would manage with the life she had.

Sounds like the man i heard about in Aus. He lives on an island and just gets on with it. He advertised for a lady friend to share his island, i was so tempted.

That's amazing. I'm one of those that honestly could never live like that. Running water, electricity - I couldn't live without it. But hats off to her, what an amazing woman.
