Staffy constipation -7 month old female
Hi,
I have a 7 month old female staffy who I feed -Vets all natural complete mix "raw food" diet too.
I have noticed that she seems to be doing a stool at least daily but it seems very hard and more pebble like than continuous...
Sometimes I have even noticed a white/clear mucussy type thing on it -maybe 1 or 2 times a week...
Is there a natural thing that I can try to see if I softens up or helps her....
She is drinking 100-200ml Puppy milk a day, plus water and gets walked 20-30 min a day min
I have tried feeding her pumpkin but she doesnt like it....
Is there anything that you can suggest..
Thanks Amy

I might head to the vet... just thought I would see if its normal for it to be "pebble like" or sometimes have "mucus" on it... or any natural alternatives before taking medication....
If anyone does know something would be great

At 7 months she has no need for puppy milk so knock that one on the head, as she'll be getting all that she needs from her puppy food.
It could be the milk thats causing this, so stop the milk and see what her stools are like then.

Clear mucus is a natural product of the colon to help aid the passing of the poop. you shouldnt usually be able to notice it so there may be an imbalance in her digestive system. As that can be caused by loads of things, parasites, foreign objects, bacteria etc etc only your vet will be able to pin point the cause.
Ive only ever seen it once with Marlery and that was when he had the runs and there was nothing left to come out.

Ok great... She has been chewing up/eating alot of things lately.... maybe thats why there is nothing left for her to chew anymore....
In the last month its been a bbq cover, a piece of carpet. a cushion, toys, a tarp, her sun bed and sticks... There is nothing left in the backyard for her to chew anymore FINGERS crossed....
I give her a bone a day such as : chicken carcass or necks. Kangaroo tails or lamb marrow bones etc...

Be very careful with bones, they can cause blockages and very expensive vet bills! I know a few ppl that have learnt this the hard way! I also sadly know someone who lost their dog because of a chicken bone that splintered and pierced the back of his throat. I am completely neurotic about bones so my boy doesn't get any. Also agree with Denise, cut the milk out, absolutely no need for this at 7 months and could be part of the problem.

On a raw food diet supplemented with raw bones you would expect them to only eliminate once or twice in every 24hours. Sounds normal for the diet shes on but the excessive mucus doesn't sound normal, I would talk to your vet about this. Also puppy milk isn't needed, pups are fully weaned at 5 weeks
