did your puppy start barking?
Callie never barked. (We actually wondered if she could for the first few weeks). Only at a few household objects she hates (the infamous muffin pan and yoga ball).
In the last week or two she will go to a door or window and snort like crazy and bark a little at a bird or something, looks tense and alert. Or she'll bark at an unfamiliar car or delivery van that comes up our street. Is this something they do as they get older?
She's so funny

Re: did your puppy start barking?
Tilly hardly ever barks , guaranteed to get a response from her with her boomer ball, or sometimes a pathetic wimpy "bark" at a little dog when she is close on lead sometimes and thats it , she doesnt cry to be out or anything she really is generally the silent one. Tommy will yowl in protest about being in his cage , has this funny bark he will make when he thinks people arent listening and is generally much more vocal than Tilly

We didnt hear Rocky bark for about 4 days when he was first here, he was about 12 months old then. Was beginning to wonder if he was able to.
We have a very small gap at the bottom of the gate in the garden which Rocky loves to get his nose right up to it and make funny horse snorting noises, he really cracks us up.
He doesn't bark when out on walks though as a rule, only if he sees something he isn't sure of.

Re: did your puppy start barking?
I watched a tiny staffy pup barking at a huge rotty at a dog show today.
The little guy wanted a pop.
The look on the rotty's face was "c'mon, you serious?"

Loki never used to bark for quite some time; he doesn't bark much now, but he will if he's warning us about something. He heard something loud near our house the other day, got up, looked towards the window, gave a proper bark, then walked away . That said, he does bark when he wants to play. It's more of a squeak.

Re: did your puppy start barking?
it took Jelly until a couple of weeks ago to really start barking, and she is the same age as Callie. mostly in the garden to the other dogs around, they have a little chat. she also started barking at us if we get into a wrestling match over her biting her lead - she bites, we stop her and step on it until she calms down, then she stands up and barks at us and bites again. this goes on for a few minutes until she realizes she's not going to get anywhere. i hope that barking goes away, i don't want it to develop into some sort of aggression thing.
otherwise, she barks when she wants us to play with her, usually with her favorites "chase me" toy in her mouth. Very cute!

Archie didn't bark at all until he was about 5 months old and then only about once a month, usually at something that was swaying like a flag or a swing. Maggie on the other hand comes from the same parents and has been vocal from about 6 weeks, she barks at other dogs constantly.

Re: did your puppy start barking?
Bandit rarely ever barked. He'd snap & snarl at other dogs (he was DA) but rarely barked.
Dempsey, however, barked more in the first 6 months than Bandit did the whole of his life!

Tyson is not really much of a barker but can have his moments.

Ruby didnt bark until she was about 4 months, we taught her to speak but it was a yappy squeek rather than a bark. shes probably barked 4 or 5 times in the 4 months shes been here. the most vocal shes been was when the window cleaner was next door, that was the first time we heard her bark, she looked like a ridgeback with her hair standing on end woofing at the door looking up at him on his ladder though she did just make herself jump and barked at her own butt when she did a noisy guff
