New to page but need help regarding my paralysed staffy
[code]
Hi, I am just wondering if there is any way I would be able
To breed my beloved English Staffordshire bull terrior. Oscar.
He is 6yo, I also own his mother and really want to breed Oscar.
He has recently become paralysed in his hind legs due to
Spinal injury, Oscar is improving day by day although I am
Doubtful that he will be able to mate naturally..
I am just wondering if anyone knows of other processes
And/or anyone that could help me
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Re: New to page but need help regarding my paralysed staffy
Hi yeah might speak to oscars vet for advice,
Well two weeks ago I came home and Oscar couldn't walk on his hind legs, a MRI revealed that two discs have compressed into his spinal cord. The specialist decided that an operation would not help. So Oscar is in a cage on strict rest for a month and on anti-inflammitorys!
I want to breed Oscar because he is such a smart amazing dog and I'd like to have one of his puppies also, and I also have his mother

Re: New to page but need help regarding my paralysed staffy
Welcome to the forum.
If you want another like Oscar why not mate his mother back to the same stud.
Personally i feel its wrong to want to breed from a paralyzed dog.

Re: New to page but need help regarding my paralysed staffy
Hi welcome.
Personally i don't agree with breeding a dog because you like them and want to have another one like them cause all dogs come out differently, but if you feel that he is a good example of the breed and he has passed all the necessary health tests then he potentially could be masturbated to get sperm.
Ethically i agree with Denise though and don't think this would be a good idea.

Re: New to page but need help regarding my paralysed staffy
I have come to realize that like people, rarely do you find the same dog twice. Mating a 6yo who has paralysis issues is a no-no. Why pass along those genes? Personality is a much more difficult thing to predict and my guess is you'd have difficult to place pups with only a slight chance of being like your boy. My heart goes out to you, but really don't like the idea personally.
On a more cheerful note, welcome to the forum!

Re: New to page but need help regarding my paralysed staffy
Hi, thanks for the advice
"I have come to realize that like people, rarely do you find the same dog twice. Mating a 6yo who has paralysis issues is a no-no. Why pass along those genes?"
Oscars problem is not in his genes, it is through Oscar falling over that his spinal injury has occurred.
I can't breed his mother with the stud because when Oscar was born his mother had a cezerean and was desexed.
I understand that the puppy will not be identical to Oscar but I just want a relation to Oscar and his mother. I don't know if this sounds weird and it's hard to explain but I have had his mother for a very long time she is now 9 and Oscar is 6, so I'd like to have oscars son or daughter
I'll be sure to upload photos of Oscar to my profile
Hopefully Oscar will make a 100% recovery, everyday he is getting stronger and is now able to stand and take a few steps before falling
Thanks for the support.

Re: New to page but need help regarding my paralysed staffy
Hi Ashley, personally, i'd wait to see how he recovers. I would not mate him if he remains this way, but if its and injury and he makes a full recovery, then yes. Just a few things to think about tho, can you the Dam's owner find loving homes for all the puppys? Has your boy had all the health tests? Is the Dam health tested? If there was a problem getting home's would you along with the dam owner be prepared to keep them until suitable forever homes were found? Im not critising you, it's just alot to think about.
Im concidering studding Kenny. But i need to be 100% ready. We're not yet.
When we got Kenny, i was told that he'd was clear of everything. I belived his breeder. I'd never owned a KC staffy and didnt realise it would be on his paperwork. Only last month i realised he hadnt, i became interesting in studding and decided to get clued up. Only now i've found out that he had'nt been tested for HC and PHPV. There's alot of interest in Kenny, but i would no way use him if he wasnt clear. I belive he's a good example of the breed, and i love him so much that the thought of a mini ken is lovely, but there's no guarntee id get it. I belive breeding/studding has to be to "better the breed". Health must come 1st. So, when we're in a better position, Kenny's tests will be done.

Re: New to page but need help regarding my paralysed staffy
Hi and welcome
I also understand that having pups is a wonderful experience as I bred my gsds and although they are no longer here I still see some of their pups (who are 10 and 12) and also their grandpups who are 10
All that said we had homes lined up for most pups before we bred them and were willing to take any pup back whatever the age (and did we rehomed one of their sons at the age of 9 and took on one of their grandsons at 6)
As already said I would see how he goes as even if he recovers would he be able to cope with a pup playing rough (wether it was his or not) its just something else I would consider
Hope he recovers well
