Wish they had this when I was a lifeguard
Wish they had this when I was a lifeguard
This would have been a great thing to have instead of letting people panic and try to drown me.

That is a great idea. Like you said not easy if the person is flapping about.
Wouldn't mind a simular device for work. I could just sit down on my backside while I get a robot to hang doors and fit flooring

I had to go get a 400 pound guy once. He put up a hell of a fight Why he thought he could swim/float that far I'll never know

Re: Wish they had this when I was a lifeguard
wow 400 lb wouldn't want that weight pulling you down. I would have to punched him in the face and hope it knocked him out

Re: Wish they had this when I was a lifeguard
I actually did a choke from behind just to be safe. Only did this after being dunked a couple of times.

Re: Wish they had this when I was a lifeguard
Is that when you are behind them and you put your arm under their chin and pull them to your chest while swimming backwards?
I did a lifesaving course when I was about 9. Thats the only way I know. Mum couldn't swim so she made me swim every week. I had every badge going and finished with life saving at 9 years old. She still forced me to go every week until I was about 12

Re: Wish they had this when I was a lifeguard
It basically renders them unconscious and much easier to pull to shore. Not much of a choice when you are giving up 250 pounds

Re: Wish they had this when I was a lifeguard
I bet that wasn't easy. It's alright when your in a swimming baths and the person your pulling is about the same size. Never really thought about getting a 400 lb paniking bloke out of the sea.

Another robot to take over a humans job. I dont like this. i dont like going to tescos anymore and people standing behind me tutting because im taking to long to scan my items, i dont like going to b&q and there being NOONE on tills and noone around and i can just walk out if i want, its mental. they complain about people not having enough work but how can a human ever compete with a robot.

Re: Wish they had this when I was a lifeguard
These robots can get out as first responders so thats got to be good, realistically they are only remote controlled floats but a great idea to help out when someone can't get there in time, should have a little speaker on them, though that says "hop on or die fatty" ., shame on you Hayley for dissing technology , if it weren't for that we wouldn't be here together (didn't we do this last night ??)

Some of them are equipped with radios. Robots will never completly take that job either unless they can make one that can perform CPR.

I think it is a great idea. Too many peeps getting huge here and trying to drown the lifeguards. Can't imagine it taking away a job as someone still has to operate it.

What about a nice shock to knock them out !!! radio goes like "come on tubby just put one hand on the + and 1 hand on the - and make sure you fasten your seatbelt first "

Re: Wish they had this when I was a lifeguard
I always talked to people when I was approaching. If they were extremely panicky I would swim around. Best and worst job I ever had.

Re: Wish they had this when I was a lifeguard
That was the best part of the job. Baywatch was still popular back then.

Re: Wish they had this when I was a lifeguard
I remember going to Devon a few years back on holiday and the lifeguard was this snotty huge bird, nothing like Baywatch , I think the plan was if anyone was in trouble she would just jump in and everybody would come flying out as a result

Re: Wish they had this when I was a lifeguard
I was actually required to be in better shape as a lifeguard than I was in the Army We had to swim 1200 yards and than sprint a mile at least 3 times a week just so the boss knew we could.

This was just a caravan club site pool , they weren't attached to the coast guard or anything which is how I think ours are now at the beach (or was it the RNLI not sure (Lifeboats) )

I think I would have been bored to death sitting at a pool.

Re: Wish they had this when I was a lifeguard
that was her problem so she had nothing better to do than pick on the older kids for chilling with their mates with their sunglasses on , we had a few goes at her and then eventually got banned on our last day , (well calculated as we just wanted to go out on a high as she p****d us and so many others off all week) then we went home and complained to the CC club for her crappy attitude
