Looking for help
As you can see i'm new to the forum and i love it so far i'm loving all the beautiful pics or your gorgeous dogs.I'm looking for some support myself,Rufus was recently attacked whilst i was walking him through our local park and believe it or not he was blamed because he was a Staff, i was appalled with the owner of the other dog as he didn't put his dog back on his lead.Luckily i protected Rufus by straddling him and keeping him away from the other dogs face by nudging him around with my legs. This is when i decided to go to the Sun newspaper about being responsible dog owners by keeping all breeds of dog on leads in public parks,to my disgust the guy said he wasn't interested unless it was my dog attacking a child because he was a staff they were not interested as Staffs being attacked don't sell papers but Staffs that do attack do sell.So i've started a Facebook page titled "Help our dogs".I have the local paper now coming round this afternoon to take pics and help me reach out to other dog owners,I would appreciate any help and backing from you guys but much more your advice.xx We are living in the day of everyone has equality regardless of our religion, colour or race, should this should apply to our dogs too ? no matter what breed they are they should have the same equality?? Im just trying to protect our best friends. xxx Many thanks.

Re: Looking for help
Good luck for today, It is a shame that the media can not promote the breed in the light it deserves!

The Sun said what! I have banned this paper from my house! Let us know if we can do anything and keep us posted with how you get on. Would love to see a copy of the article when it goes in your local paper.

Yes, me too, Kenny's forever being approach by dogs who have acted aggressive to him, luckly not fully attacked, he allways lays down submissive. Poor staffys allways get the blame

Hi and welcome.
While I admire your desire to help dogs, I don't agree with having to keep them all on a lead. My boy is very well behaved, well socialized, has zero aggression, and he has excellent recall. Why should he be kept on a lead when he loves to run free?
I can understand that dogs that are aggressive or whose owners have little control over them should be kept on a lead, but not dogs that don't bother anybody and come straight back when called. My poor dog would go mad if he wasn't allowed to run and play and socialise off lead.

Re: Looking for help
I completely agree with you and thank you for your reply unfortunately there are now so many dog owners that haven't given the same respect to their dogs as we have shown ours xx

I agree with the above. When I said I would help in any way, I should have explained more, I do agree the dogs that are aggressive towards other dogs should be put back on a lead where there could be alot of other dogs about. I whole heart agree that dogs should be allowed to excise off lead too. Pixee is alway put back on lead when other dogs come walking down or up the canal. There are times when she does not have to be, these times are becoming abit more I am pleased to say. As a guide I tend to follow other owners actions, when I see them put their dog on a lead, I will do the same out of respect as well as for the fact that I know Pixee. Unless of course you know your dog is well behaved and have not need for it then leave the dog off lead.

Re: Looking for help
im in the middle on this one as i can see from both sides memphis can go off lead when no dogs around but he can get a bit huffy not agresive when there dogs jumping all over him. so he on lead most time when dogs around .
but my problem are the people that have non aggresive dogs off lead that allow there dogs to run around other dogs on lead and do nothing to call there dogs back .
iv got a 100ft lead that i use most times memphis can run round never getts to the end of the lead and i can bring him in to me if a feel the need .
to me this is the perfect comprimise as really by law you should have your dog on lead in public places ie parks

I am with you on this one, this does get my back up. There is one woman who lets her dog come running over to Pixee when she is on lead and does nothing to call her back, Pixee does not like that dog for that reason. I have had to shout at her when she carried on walking off giving me a dirty look to keep her dog on lead next time. Today just, I got back from a walk, where Pixee met face to face another dog, both off lead on the corner, took me by suprise too, as I am always on the look out, lucky Pixee sat on first comment, I quickly put her on lead, the lady was somewhat suprised, till I explained, cos I could tell from Pixees body she wasnt happy at being taken by suprise either, that Pixee can be wary round other dogs, to which the lady smiled and said oh ok, its just my dog is not bothered and will keep away, which it did and we bid each other good day.
