To ask or not to ask.....
Right so me and the other half live in rented accomidation . We plucked up the courage to ask if we could get a dog and had spotted an advert for ziggy who was house trained , crate trained and a good dog . The landlord agreed provided we pay for any damage and make sure the carpets are cleaned etc before we move out .
We are so desperate to get a play mate for ziggy , he seems to love the company of other dogs once he gets to kno them and is so great to see him play , as u may have seen him with my moms dog and his other play mate a jack russell pup . However , im unsure the landlord would agree to another . In my eyes we are going to clean the house before we leave (ziggy hasnt done any damage at all ) so i cant see there being too much problem .
But then i think well its rented and we want a pup this time , and from his point of view a pup is so different from an older dog as he asked us how old the dog was when we asked last time . We are wanting to buy a house next year , however that may or may not happen (im looking for full time work, as im currently doing part time ) .
So my question is , do we ask our landlord ? i mean if we dont ask we dont get , or do you think we are pushing our look asking for another ? It doesnt help that our friends have just got two very cute french bull dog pups and its making us broody!
thanks for your help and sorry for waffling on

I would make sure to ask. If he lets you have one with the provisions already agreed to I wouldn't think a second would be a problem.

Hey, I would just ask, but you might want to think about getting a pup if you are going to be at work full time - unless your oh is at home - they are a lot of work and need someone around a lot in the early days. Good luck with what you decide x

Yes definately ask the landlord first if you can have another. It would be difficult to let go of the puppy once a bond has formed, which your landlord would have every right to do.
Make sure you also get the aggrement in writing if they let you go ahead.

Re: To ask or not to ask.....
Ask. Offer to show your landlord what good condition your house is still in, despite having a dog there already. If you're going to crate train the pup, tell the landlord all about crate training - how it helps to minimise any chewing damage & 'accidents' in the house.
Be open & honest with him - he can only say yes or no, but at least he'll know that you're being honest with him.

Re: To ask or not to ask.....
thanks for the comments guys ,
We definately wouldnt get one without asking thats for sure we have a very nosey neighbour opposite who is the king of gossip . my other half says we should wait until we have our own house etc despite definately wanting one (she cant look at pup pics because it makes her really want one)
my thoughts are to ask as the worst he can say is no , in which case we wait till we have our own house .
At the moment i work part time , and my other half is full time , ziggy gets left the maximum of 4-5 hours for only a few days a week , when me and the other half cross over . so part of me thinks now is better because we have more time them when i do work full time at some point , it will be alot easier as the pup would be over .
I think im worried about pushing my luck you see with the landlord , but at the same time feel that the arrangements we made to have ziggy would still work with another dog .

Re: To ask or not to ask.....
my land lord said yes when i got romeo as a puppy, all they wanted to know was how big he would get.... i havent told them about the chewed WALLS so far... thinking i'll fix that before i leave.
Re: To ask or not to ask.....
As above the best reference you have for your question is the present condition of your house , though I would think long and hard if you are going to be out more, what would be the maximum time they are left alone ?? assuming you end up with a full time job
