My sister OH
hes been having a huge trouble with his back for years, 2 weeks ago just had a huge op on his back where they fused it up to try to get him a normal life back.
something a bit like this
hes been having trouble getting benefits for the last years he clearly cant work and today he had a letter saying his benefits as been stop because hes fit for work only 2 weeks after a life changing op this country is a joke they should be sending back people who shouldn't be living here not punish people who cant works for god sake...

Ludicrous! Can't the doctors give him a letter to say he still isn't fit for work?

This is the op I could have on my back but the surgeon I spoke to didn't want to do it because of the complications. It looks like he will have a certain amount of restricted movement though, how many dics's did they fuse, do you know ?
He is very lucky to have had it done, wish him all the best from me.

Hope he recovers well. In their eyes if you can use one finger you are fit to work.

i think 4 i will ask tomoz when i see him
Re: My sister OH
He shouldn't have any problem. Wife has had ops on her spine and I think recovery time is 12-18 months on average. Someone probably seen him lifting his own eyelids and thought if he can lift them he can lift 10 ton of bricks a day

Have they put an appeal in since they were told he would have to go back to work? It is very very common for them to do this. But a big proprtion of those that go to appeal win it. Its just their way of cutting the number of people claiming benefits. The staff at Atos who are the copany assessing for ESA get bonuses for cutting the number of peple claiming benefits.
I have been through all this myself and consider mayself very lucky to get on the full support level as I won't ever to be able to go back to work and DLA. first time without appealing.
But I know lots of people who have to apeal even though they supply letters from their consultants etc.

Re: My sister OH
Have they spoken to any where live the CAB for legal advice. You could also post on money saving expert web site they have a section on benefits with a lot of post on. I'm sure they'll be someone on there who have been in a similar situation with their benefits.

I hope they can get things sorted

Re: My sister OH
Think moneysavingexpert is an axcellent site. Be lucky at the moment to find a CAB and if you get lucky good luck with getting an appointment. All hours and funding has been cut for them

I don't know if these would be any help
http://www.dls.org.uk/index.html
http://www.goodadvicematters.co.uk/index.php/about/
http://atosvictimsgroup.co.uk/
I would also get them to contact their MP. I know people who have stuggled with their benefits which magically get sorted once their MP has got involved.
