Re: Sports Recovery Drinks
well the mix you are going to try will help you build muscle mass but with intensive training you will more than likely throw it back up as your body will reject and cramp due the high fat /protien as your body will be craving the salts and sugers lost in sweating.
it tastes awful but you will be better with cold filter coffee load of suger and half teaspoon of salt mixed 50/50 with sparkling mineral water

Re: Sports Recovery Drinks
I've never really used them much. I'll take some protein powder if trying to build mass but I just eat a well balanced diet and drink at least 4 liters of water every day. If you are consistanly hydrated it makes recovery that much easier. In the summer I will add a little extra salt to my diet to help water retention.

Re: Sports Recovery Drinks
Made it last night and it was nice. Would recommend only putting in half of everything above as I ended up with 2 and a half pints from that.
Read salts are good Wazza for loss through sweat but also read its important to replace damaged muscle with a 3:1 Carb:Protein drink. Only time after a big workout is high fat good as it doesn't store the fat but is used to repair muscle damage and enables the body to aborb them very quickly.

Re: Sports Recovery Drinks
Protein is more important for repairing damaged muscle or making them larger. As a general rule you should consume 1 gram per lean pound of body mass. Too lazy right now to do the conversion

Re: Sports Recovery Drinks
For building muscle the main thing is carbs and protein. Tell him to get onto Insanity or any max interval training, beats lifting weights any day.
How heavy is he and how much protein is he eating a day?

he's a 9 n a bit stone lad,to be honest there's nothing on him like most lads his age,he's never in to eat properly,i keep telling him to eat lots of pasta, potatoes ect but he works part time at mcdonalds so a big mac before he goes out on the beer is his prefered diet!

At that age and having a fast metabolism he can eat whatever as long as the protein intake is high. As long as he is including bench press, squat and deadlift as the core of his routine and not lifting and muscle group more than twice a week he will be fine.

Re: Sports Recovery Drinks
How did he get on?
I am struggling at the moment to get my recommended daily amount of potassium of 4700mgs. I'm sure it's an impossible thing to achieve unless you eat 4000 calories a day.

Re: Sports Recovery Drinks
Love bananas but what is high in potassium comes with calories. I can get my target by eating 12 bananas but that ends up 1200 calories (half of my daily allowance)
Just found out cantaloupe melons are good
Banana 100g Potassium 358mg Calories 89
Melon Cantaloupe 100g Potassium 267mg Calories 34

Re: Sports Recovery Drinks
Still means you have to eat 1.76Kgs of the stuff per day.
Can't see many people doing that

Re: Sports Recovery Drinks
I take Multi Vits but no potassium in them. Looked in the supermarkets today to see if you can get potassium tabs but can't find any. Can you get them in Japan? How much potassium do you eat a day cos 4700mg seems a silly amount
