Realisation Just Hit me :( Empty Realisation Just Hit me :(

Call me an idiot, but I never knew (before joining this site) that there was a stigma surrounding Staffs. The only Staff I'd ever met was one belonging to my friend and her family when we were kids (10 or 11) and I adored her, she was brilliant and loving. So that's always been my opinion of them. Anyway, I was just looking at this Liverpool rescue centre site, for no real reason, and literally 90% of the dogs on there were Staffs or Staff crosses. It made me sad, I almost cried Sad some of them have been there for years, it's such a shame and I don't get why. If you dislike a breed, you wouldn't get a Staff in the first place, would you? Then why are so many of them in need of homes? Obviously it's sad for any dog to be there regardless of breed, but it really blew me away how it was Staff after Staff.

That's it, when I get my own place and get a good job, I'm gonna get another Staff from one of these places. There are a lot of people breeding Staffs, and I got Loki from a breeder and will never regret it, but to think there are so many who are stuck in kennels Sad

It is quite sad. I think that part of the problem is that alot of people get a Staff and than find out how much work is required for a happy well trained dog and then just give up.

It certainly is very depressing looking around at rescue centres, I know. They are such a loving and giving breed of dog. I dont think people realise what they are missing out on.

I hate rescue centres. Only because they make me open my eyes and remind me how bad does especially staffs have it at the moment. Then I go home feeling bad cos I can't save them

Might be something that schools could introduce. A day at a rescue centre. Then the kids could learn about what the current problems are. How to look after animals and also help at the rescue centre e.g feeding them or changing water in their bowls etc. Would be a good hands on with good knoweldge for when they grow up and start looking themselves for a pet

We are quite lucky. The only reason that we don't have rescue dogs is that there weren't any Staffs, and that is what we set our hearts on. We looked for a bit before getting Maska and Loki from a breeder. We have lots of other dogs at the shelters, but not many Staffs or Staff X's. They don't really have such a stigma here, and people just seem to love them, so they are few and far apart. It is really sad though.

I agree with Chantal. The situation here is very different. I still wish the fact that Staffies are hard work but well worth the perseverence was put out there loud and clear.
