ah the summer holidays
Oh i hate this time of year with all the kids off school, who clearly have nothing to do then wind the boys up
We live in a terrace house with a jitty that leads to our back garden which is fenced in with a gate but it isn't the tallest.
Now kids think it's funny to run up each jitty between all the houses and gets to ours with Chance in the back garden, i heard him going mental at the gate so go to see kids throwing stones and opening the gate to let Chance out! and the gate has 4 locks on to keep the boys in!
Now i have to go grab Chance who is desperately trying to get at the kids, ended up him biting me on the arm quite badly (accident) and the kids running off screaming.
He new what he'd done and had never been so sorry, but i'd rather him bite me then the kids, and people wonder why kids get bit and yet the dog gets blamed.
Ah roll on September.......

Oh Ella, I am certainly not having a go as stupid children infuriate me also, but what if he does get a child Can you not put up a bigger gate?
Sadly I would love to blame the kids (and I do), but if anything did happen I'd hate something to happen to Chance.

Do you have a community officer in your area you could have a word with? Maybe a visit to Mummy & Daddy from a uniform may set them right ???

Re: ah the summer holidays
I push a wheelie bin filled with soil across my gate.
Is that an option for you?

Re: ah the summer holidays
the bins i use to cover up the fence and make it taller, so the only bit left is the gate

Kids should all be sent away to a deserted island on the holidays. I won't walk around town in the summer at all cause they are always hanging about.

As a mother, I'm offended
But seriously, I understand how Frustrating this must be for you, if anything did happen, it would be Chance in trouble even though the kids are being idiots

Yep but theres no telling kids that chance WILL bite them he doesn't care if they are kids, which is why as much as i don't want to he is muzzled in our back garden which is ridiculous.
He'd only gone for a *

Ella, have you thought about a deterant: how difficult would it be for you to find something brown, squidgy and very smelly and smear it on the outside of the gate. Then maybe the kids would think twice about touching it. Just a suggestion and you didn't hear it from me

Re: ah the summer holidays
Not nice to deal with!!
However, just wanted to say not all kids are like that! Mine are very well behaved and would never do anything of the sort! They are animal lovers through and through! And the kids round my way are generally well behaved too. So tbh I blame the parents.
If you see them again, tell them you know where they live and if you see them at your gate again you're gonna tell their parents! Even if you don't, they don't know that >

Re: ah the summer holidays
I no it's not all kids, but the good kids are in the minority.
I get kids lunge and scream in the boys face on walks, last year kids egged harvey in the garden, they have thrown stones on our walks.
So when i say i hate kids i do have a good reason

You are in a difficult situation there. It is unfair for the boys not to enjoy their own space and the kids are clearly in the wrong but should the unimaginable happen the boys will be blamed.
I would seriously try and talk with the parents with the kids present. Otherwise it might take you sitting in wait for the blighters and politely ( ) requesting their co-operation.

Honestly i wouldn't talk to the parents incase they are the sort to turn around and try to claim money from you cause chance "bit" their child. i wouldnt put it past them, if they are happy to let their kids antagonise dogs.

Yeah that's awful!!!
I still blame the parents but that don't help you does it! I know you said your rented but can you not get some of that bamboo screening fencing to put across, and if your landlord comes out either say it's easily removable and you will remove before moving out or just take it down before he does come out and then pop it straight back up.
Because it's fairly light you dont need to drill too much in the existing fence and because of the nature of bamboo being flexible, it should hold steady in a fair wind.
I'm sure you could get it cheaper than this, and there's all different types:

Re: ah the summer holidays
Oh it's most definitely the parents fault but that doesn't help me!
Yer i could probably use the bamboo screens but our garden is a bit odd and awkward but it might work

Re: ah the summer holidays
Well I'd get one sheet first to see how it fits etc. instead of paying out a whole lot. It's quite flexible so I'm sure it can be forced to fit
Anyway it'd be good for a bit of privacy, incase you ever feel the urge to get yer kecks off and do a bit of sunbathing

Re: ah the summer holidays
Haha I'd ideally need something i can put there and move it as it's the only gate into the garden and our back door

Re: ah the summer holidays
Is it just the gate that's the prob then? I thought it was a whole fence!
In that case you could get a rectangle/ square container or planter and fill up with large stones/dirt/ compost. And 'plant' it in that. Just needs to be wide enough across to fit the gate. Then just swiveling/ pull out the way or push it in place when the boys are in the garden. You could also plant the boys herbs they have in it so a double whammy!
Or other than that, I'd get a cheap door or bit of mdf off eBay or diy shop and just pop it up whenever they in the garden.
All you need is a barrier really, so the brats can't see when he's in the garden.
