My poor Maz collapsed
Anyone know anything extra I can give for joints?
Poor Mazda collapsed last night she got out her bed to walk in kitchen and her back legs just gave way I rung me mother right away cos knew she was still at the vets locking up so she came round, gave her some pain killer and a antiinflamitry (soz bout spelling lol) she collapsed another 2 times
She's in vets now being checked to make sure theres nothing else wrong and that its just her arthritus and her medication will be upped.
Fingers crossed for my old girl please everyone, I'll update once I know shes ok, Its breaking my heart to see her like it, Kodi's not moved from the front door hes just sitting there crying for her

Do you give glucosamine and chondroitin? I think apple cider vinegar can be good too - unpasteurised with the 'mother'
ETA: I've heard someone talk about a supplement called mobile bones I think and they said it really helped. Think it's glucosamine and chondroitin and a few other things.

Re: My poor Maz collapsed
I hope she will be okay.. how worrying for you ! ><
Jethro has arthritis powder containing green mussel powder in his food every day, and also omega 3,6 @ 9 oil daily.. My vet said that even though Jethro struggles sometimes with his back end, if it wasn't for the supplements he would be alot worse...

Re: My poor Maz collapsed
oh no, sounds horrible, you don't mention what meds she's already on but maybe ask your vet about metacam(not shore if thats how it's spelt), that's what my mums collie was on when she had problems with her back end when she got older and it helped loads.

Re: My poor Maz collapsed
Hi all thank u so much for ur kind words really means a lot
Ive just got Maz back and pleased to say its nothing serious, I was worried sick after she had her stroke early this year.
Her arthritus has got worse and her little swimming session the other day well the walk to bus after they said was simply too much for her legs after the swimming, The swimming will do her good but she has to be carried or wear a "support type harness" so theres not to much pressure on her back legs, so going to look online now.
Shes now on a high dose of rymadol and metacam, she has to be put in her cage for 2hrs per day for "quiet/rest" time (to force her to rest as she tries to keep up with Kodi & the other dogs), No stairs at all from now on as the weight going up could cause her back legs to give way which could possibly result in a break if she fell the wrong way
She's on 2 5mins walk for a week, they said end of road and back is fine just to keep her legs moving.
But barring her back legs shes in tip top condition, her hearts very strong for her age, I did get told off as she's erm................pleasently plump
Im going 2mz to get some of the things u all suggested to give that little bit extra (Thank u all)
She's happy as anything right now (prob cos she's drugged up ) but she came back with a new large kong tennis ball, her fav toys but............. its squeaks and thats all I can hear right now
Im happier now to as my friend has kindly offered to have Maz & Kodi when I go greece in august and stay at mine so Maz dont have to be taken from her own home, I really couldnt put her in kennels she's just too old.
Anyways after talking u all to sleep heres Maz showing off her new ball
"Look what ive got everyone!!"

Re: My poor Maz collapsed
There are a few things you can give, have you tried hydrotherapy
Also you could give:
glucosamine and chondroitin (marine not bovine source)
turmeric
fish body oil and vit e
vit c
apple cider vineger
mobile bones
yumove
etc and you can give a combination of them

No problem hope she has some improvement, but the hydrotherapy can work wonders! big hugs to mazda!

Re: My poor Maz collapsed
yes the hydro therapy is a great idea..Jethro doesn't swim much...not like Winston who is still diving into the dam and doing laps daily ( it is winter here!! ) but when Jethro swims you can see how free he is ... My vet said it is an excellent exercise for older doggies..

Re: My poor Maz collapsed
I used to give my old dog Jason aloe vera liquid with great effects as its a natural pain relief and anti-inflammatory. It was recommended to me by another dog owner who also found it beneficial. Anything is worth trying, its so sad when their poor old joints start to feel the strain - hope he is feeling better soon

So glad she is ok, hope you find something that works for her very soon. I hate it when any of our dogs has a problem, I always feel so helpless and panic more about them than my kids
