Sad Teething

Post by RLaughton Fri Jul 20 2012, 20:59

Hi all, Can i get some advice my staff pup is 23wks and teething and he has 3 of his k9 incisors cutting behind the baby teeth which aren't loose and don't seem to be shifting. May this be a problem or has this happened to anyone else?

It could be a problem. Teeth can become impacted if the baby teeth aren't loosining properly and cause the adult teeth to devolp incorrectly. I would go to the vet to see what they say to be on the safe side.

Are all the other teeth coming through properly?

I take it you've tried giving her things to chew on? A good sized raw meaty bone would maybe help because she'd have to rip the meat off with her incisors which may loosen them.

Other than that, a trip to the vets would sort it out.

Hi Carly, yes all the others are through fine. Just these last 3. I am currently

letting him have hide bones, chew sticks etc. Wasn't sure about proper bones

incase it splits and damages his troat. Will attempt this then before the vets.

Thanks for the help. Smile

I've had this happen in the past, this is when my trusted old sock comes in handy .
A good game of a tug and war game with you and your pup will soon have those baby teeth loosened and pulled out.

Rawhide is far more likely to cause damage than a raw bone (always raw, never cooked) because rawhide swells in the stomach. Sad

Wow another Rach with a brindle pup! Soon we will be everywhere Mwahahaha!

Agree with the meaty bones. They are great chews and a great natural food source. Plus the added benefit of keeping them occupied for ages!

Hi all.

Just a quick update for you all. Took shadow to the vets and she said one shall definately need extracting under anestetic Sad Since then have spoilt him rotten with lots of bones to chew on and am happy to say that all 3 have come out, so in turn have cancelled our tooth extraction appointment.
