I took the dogs down to my Mum's today so we could take them down to the beach. These were taken from her front garden after he had tried to get under the bridge! I bet he's going to be in trouble when he gets back to the depot!! Smile

He'll lose his job. There's no excuse, he knows the height of his vehicle & the clearance height of the bridge will be clearly marked. The company will not only have to repair the vehicle but will also have to pay for the repair of the bridge, and if it's a railway bridge, the cost of the cancelled trains!

My brother is a class 1 HGV Driver , you'd be surprised how many mistakes like this are made before serious action is taken for most companies

My oh is a bus driver. If he did that he'd be out on his ear (after a short disciplinary). All HGV & PSV drivers have a duty in law to know the height of their vehicle. No excuses. Very often the police will get involved as well & the driver can be prosecuted.

My Dad was an HGV driver for a very long time and has many funny stories as you can imagine.

He once got pulled over by a traffic cop who tried to convince him he was driving a loaded truck because it had the load straps in the back and no load at all. He promptly told her to bugger off.

My oh used to drive artics. Part of his regular work was a trip carrying bales of fabric to Northern Ireland - right in the height of the troubles.

He was feeling hungry one evening so he stopped opposite a fish & chip shop. Without thinking he got out & went into the shop to get something to eat (bear in mind the amount of soldiers present in the streets of Belfast in those days & the amount of car bombs that used to go off).

When he got back to the cab he found it surrounded by armed police & soldiers. He had a lot of explaining to do!

Trucks in USA are amazing. Stayed with my bro's who lived in Texas for a month and there was a truck there that was a tanker and the tanker was shaped as a big Stella Can. Was just about to rob the driver at gun point when someone told me they just advertising, it's not stella in there.
