Getting another dog
I have a 11 month old staffie bitch at the moment and was thinking about getting another one so they keep each other company is this a good idea or bad?
Will they fight, Can they sleep in the same bed?

Re: Getting another dog
Generally it is recommended to have a bigger age gap between the 2, my 2 are about 18 months apart but I would have made the gap a bit bigger if I was doing it again (maybe as much as 3 years) as Tilly is still a pup really which means the fighting (rough play fighting not real fighting) is more often and more full on. But other members do have dogs much closer together and 1 or 2 brother and sister , brother / brother etc though this is generally not good to have siblings and you must exercise a lot of caution. Would it be a consideration for you to take an older rescue dog , 3 or 4 years ??

Re: Getting another dog
people would recomend a two year gap which i think is good but not to say it cant work having a smaller gap .
its all down to how much spare time you have for the training as with two young dogs as said will alot more full on .
but if you have most of the day spare or there going to be people around that can carry on with the training i dont see how it wouldnt work .
re the sharing a bed yes for a day bed but to be on the safe side have seperate night beds and if it was me i would crate (just incase it kicks off when asleep or when you need to pop out as incedent can flair very quick)
but upmost dont expect it to be easy as its not going to be but with strong will and hard training it can be done

Re: Getting another dog
I agree with Dave and Wazza, but it can work. We got our pup when Maska was close on 11 months and the first few weeks was a bit rough, but I have the benefit of working from home, so I am always here to stop things getting too rough. As dave said, with the older dog still being a pup, they play rough and need some supervision.
They still have moments, but now they have become inseperable.

Re: Getting another dog
I would recommend a two year gap so that the first dog can be completly trained and help teach the younger dog. That being ideal it can work with a smaller gap if you have the time to devote to it.

We're in the process of adopting Charlie who is around 8 months old as a companion for Cassie approx 2 years old. Both rescue dogs and after one week all good so far.
