"Seal Colour?"
Hi Guys, About 5 months ago i posted a question asking what colour my pup might be?? Lots were discussed and suggested but the general answer was wait till he's about 6 months + Anyway I'd kinda just got used to him being brown with a dark patch along his spine and golden flanks, he's a cheeky monkey and I'd left it at that..... that was until my partner and I met a guy whilst out walking and he certainly knew his stuff as far as staffy's go, apparently Rolo is a "Seal"?? I'd never heard of it?? Wondered if anyone else out there knows about them? I believe it is derived from the fact that his father was a Blue and his mother a Brindle?? The photo's don't show it very well, but this guy who saw Rolo in the flesh was adamant??

Re: "Seal Colour?"
Yea I would say blue brindle too x
I have found with most blues they tend to absorb the colors around them iykwim . My bitch can look either dark blue or blue brindle dependant on natural light or artificial light lol

Look again, Steve. There's a definite bluish tinge to his coat.

Re: "Seal Colour?"
He has the bluish tinge all over depending on the light... his individual hairs on his flanks are dark ending with a gold tip.... but from the base of his neck across the shoulders and then back into a broad stripe down his spine its solid black... It's odd as i thought brindle was normally a sort of patchy type markings all over??? I'll look for another pic... so seal is out the window then? lol

Re: "Seal Colour?"
Tbh my 18wk old pup is blue with White chest marking BUT has about 4 clear brindle stripes one on his shoulders, One on his back and One on each hip.
He also has a heck of a lot of black hair along his back all down his spine that's coming thru, so IMO I reckon my pup will end up a fairly dark blue/brindle.

Re: "Seal Colour?"
Ignoring my daughter! lol this probably gives the best hint of his golden fleck, that has now spread right down his shoulders and sides and the dark stripe coming down his back, Was just curious as to where this term seal comes from.... I discovered its because they look like a California Sealion... but guess its just a saying then? lol. He's really not a black.... hence me describing him as chocolate for months!! Nothing else seemed to fit his changing colours.

Re: "Seal Colour?"
seal is a colour with cats, normall they have a light body with dark points, but now i think about it, i think seal in boston terriers is meant to appear black, but have a RED over tone in the sun. this one is blue, he's a dilute blue brindle most likely
Re: "Seal Colour?"
Hmm can't really see the blue now ... Is he registered ? What colour ?
I can see why he said Seal now lol ! He's gorgeous

Re: "Seal Colour?"
He's not registered, I was quite happy to have him unregistered as I have no intention of breeding him, he is purely a family pet and work dog. I just wanted a healthy and sound one.. which he is His father was Blue, his mother a dark brindle, Grandmother was a Red Brindle... I love seeing the pic's of people's dogs on here, whatever colour they are they're totally gorgeous!!

Re: "Seal Colour?"
I still think he's a dark blue brindle. The redish colour you see coming through I would think is part of the brindling.

Re: "Seal Colour?"
Steve, I researched his breeder as much as I could. It was my choice not to have him registered. Well I guess he is whatever he is and that's My Rolo
