Good morning.
Hello my name is Leigh and i have a staffy pup,age im not sure of as she has got all her adult teeth, but she kinda small,so im guessing 7-9 months ?
Jodys life story
Jody was born in london sold in london and lived in london, then she was in Alton in Hampshire.
I spotted an add in the local paper advertsing Jody (not KC reg) and phoned up and arranged to go view her that night,i arrived at the house and was disgusted in what i seen, anyways walked into the house and all i seen was this little brindle staffy bolting everywhere at top speed lol. (she was prob 4-6 months on ) and as soon as i saw her i had to have her. I asked the bloke how old she was he couldnt answer that question,i asked if she been chipped he said yes i do no that because the bloke i brought her off told me.wice
Has she had any injections No was his reply.
Got Jody home and gave her a bath and some food and then just gave her loads of attention for the night which she seemed to love and still does.
Vets following morning and her 1st lot of injections,2 weeks later back again for her last lot of injections,Then joined up to the vet plan and had her done.
Now before i had Jody done she would go for other dogs, now ive got her spade she is fine with other dogs.(happy days)
Now she gets feed twice a day morning and evening and she gets taken out for walks 4 times a day every day,( where ever i go she goes )
Now this is where the nightmare begins.
3 weeks ago she came in after being in the garden and she stunk,i found out what it was.she is eating her own poo poo.
If i dont get there straight away once she has done it she will eat it. Is this common with staffy pups ? will she grow out of it ? will it make her ill eating her poo ?
Ive searched on line and they say give the dog pineapple,so went out and brought some pineapple chunks and gave to Jody and she ate it no problem. then the following night i woke up to a nasty smell ( it was vile ) so after turning all the lights on i went into the kitchen and noticed she done a little wee and next to it was a couple of dark marks still wet and it smelt,so she had either been sick due to the pineapple chunks or ate her poo once again.
Ive even caught her doing it this evening, she has a poo walks away sniffs it and then starts to eat it (yuk im feeling sick now )
How can i stop her from doing this please guys im really at my wits end with her, also when she goes out for her walks she wont mess what so ever she will wait untill she gets back home, then once back home its out the garden has a wee wee or a poo then starts to eat it.
If you say Jody she cowers and looks at you she knows she has done wrong, then when she walks past you she is wetting her self.
Please guys im really at my wits end with her now.
Ive had dogs all my life and tought them and trained them ( border collies or border collie x )
I dont mind a challange like the next person but this is getting silly now.
Iv had her since 11th may this year.
Like ive said please any help would be great
Thank you for taking your time and reading this.

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. I've actually never had a dog that ate their own poo just that of other animals. I would try feeding pineapples and bannanas as well to see if that works.

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
Well done for rescuing Jody from who know what. When she goes out for the toilet go with her and try to clear it up before she gets a chance to get to it herself. Also a good LEAVE command should work said quite loud and lots of praise when she does leave it.
Hope all goes well, please dont be afraid to ask for any further help you may need.

Re: Good morning.
Hi and Welcome to the forum
Our previous dog used to eat his own poop (disgusting, I know). This might not be the case, but when fed low quality food, or food with a low absorbtion rate, dogs might eat their poop because of a lack of nutrients their body craves.
We used to have these biscuits as treats when training, but after doing some research, we found that the absorbtion rate was so low, so when it came out the other side our dog could still smell it. We changes biscuits and gone was the problem
This is one possible solution, but I'm not so clued up on any others, besides the pineapple in food which you've already tried.

Re: Good morning.
You should be able to just hoover your cursor over the IMG code and click copy. The site is a bit slow sometimes.

A copy and paste should work. Just click on the image icon on here that is in the middle of the area where you post and paste.

Re: Good morning.
Hi and welcome from me, Millie and Bella.
I haven't had a problem with them eating their own poop but Bella seems to love cat poop. The "leave" command works with her. She will still try and have a sneaky cat poop snack but at least she leaves as soon as she's told.

Re: Good morning.
Welcome to the site from Jack, Juno & I! Jody looks gorgeous, what a lucky girl she is to have you rescue her I would suggest cleaning up the poo straight away, and teaching her "Leave", when she leaves the poo give her a treat and lots of praise, possibly even with the use of a keyword if you don't have one already, I use "yes", instead of good girl as it is short sharp and easily recognisable. :D
I hope she stops doing it soon and that you find something that works, she is a little cutie

Thanks everyone for the responces when i let her into the back garden thats when it all starts i norm let her out in garden couple of times in the evening and also during the day.
just dont understand why she does it..
most dogs go toilet and thats that. jody goes then eats it i have to wait for her to go which at times can be a long wait, then get there clean it up before she eats it.

Re: Good morning.
Hi & welcome to the forum ><
I have never had a dog thats done this. I have heard of pineapple but never tried it.
Chantel suggested it may be due to the food she is eating. Just out of interest what do you feed her?

Re: Good morning.
Hi and welcome.
I asked my vet why dogs eat poop (Callie will eat deer poop and we have tons around here), thinking, perhaps it's a nutritional thing, I should feed her something different...and she looked at me and said "Because they can."
I'll be trying the pineapple right along with you!
