Finding his voice!
Now I'm getting used to the staffy pig snuffles, the difference in pitch in his barks depending on why he is doing it and his purring when he is content but tonight was a whole new experience.
Ledger always gets very excited in the back of the car as we get home/get close to my parents house and its not uncommon for him to whine, well tonight as I was parking I heard an almighty scream come from him he sounded like a teenage girl at a justin Bieber concert! Well it certainly gave me the fright of my life I half expected to open the back of the car and find he'd broken a leg or had trapped his paw/tail somewhere but no he was happily sat on his cushion wagging his tail and waiting for the lead to be clipped on before he hopped out.
I guess it was just some kind of half whine half yawn thing but got me wondering what is the most unusual sound to come out of your fur baby?

Suki will snore, growl and bark in her sleep. She also is very excitable in the back of the car.

Snoring. I didn't expect such loud snores from such a tiny thing. Also, not the weirdest thing, but the cutest thing: whenever Loki yawns, he lets out an adorable little whine/sigh thing.

You will get a lot more noises where that one came from. Staffs are so vocal, and just when you think you know all the sounds, they come up with one more

Re: Finding his voice!
Rocky makes some strange noises in the car too, especially when we get anywhere near the park. He is loving the puddles at the moment and gets very excited when we drive through a big one in the car park to the park.
He does a kind of half yawn half ?? very strnage noise and very loud.

This sounds like my Jack Hehe, does huuuuge yawns and does the little whine and his tongue stretches out too and its huuuuge! HahaANattyRat wrote:Snoring. When we first got Jack he would cry all night and it sounded a lot like a dying Banshee, so I can relate to the high pitched squeal, pretty funny really some of the noises they come out with
Jack also grunts in his sleep like a little piggy

Yeah Max is getting a bit more vocal the older he gets ... when he barks at me to tell me off if I'm winding him up, I could see how it would scare the sh!t outa someone else ... but he's just a big softy

HAHAHAHA! I'm still getting used to Benson's amazing vocal gymnastics! I thought Dalmatians were vocal, but Staffies take it to a whole new level! Purr, grunt, roar, scream, snuffle - it's like having your very own zoo and farmyard rolled into one furry, licky package!

I can't believe the sounds Jabba makes some days, he is very attached to me & if i lock him outside for a while to do something inside, look out! you would swear blind someone is getting murdered outside. I take him to rugby & if i go out of site he starts up. So he pretty much goes everywhere with me now. He does get some strange looks when he does it.

Re: Finding his voice!
They do make some weird noises, Im in fits sometimes listening to them. The strangest sounds come when they are excited or they want something. Tali does a really funny one where she squeals and opens and closes her mouth like shes smacking her lips, comes out like 'Ahhhh-ga-ga-ga-ga-ga!'

Re: Finding his voice!
Lily just suddenly comes out with something - just like Father Jack. She makes a gargling noise like she is rolling her 'rrrs' (we think she is of Spanish decent ) and the other night she did it and and it sounded like "ars*". Can't wait for all the other 'Jackisms'

Re: Finding his voice!
Our dog des is finding his voice slowly, he whines in his sleep and he will do a whine/yawn when he's impatient for something and when he's pleased to see us he does a gurgle type sound! He also makes a groan souNd when being cuddled.

Re: Finding his voice!
Lexi is not a very vocal dog at all, she only barks at her tray (her fave toy ) but her bark when there is someone at the back gate is so deep and aggressive sounding i was like wtf has one of the neighbours GSD got into my yard lol
Shes only ever done it twice, both time it was night and strange men were at the gate. she is weary of strange men definitely.

Re: Finding his voice!
love this!
I thought someone living by us owned chickens, since we moved in (over a year ago) i heard clucks every so often, yesterday i heard it again so i had a look out the window and it was a Staffy that lives below us i couldnt stop laughing and told my hubby to take alook.
The poor little dog was out in the rain crying at their back door they must of gone out and left him outside, He was out for a good few hours.
Anyway mystery solved
xx

Re: Finding his voice!
staffies can make the most weird and wonderfull sounds cant they!!
my last staff Roxy could "speak" on command. this was not a bark it was sumwhere between a howel and a whine i guess.totaly indescribable...also hillarious....she loved to to it though but would only do it when asked to thankfully.
on a simaler not Roxy lived to be 13 and i only heard her "angry bark" twice in her whole life. weird right??
Missy can make sum strange noises but cannot "speak" and i have never heard her aggressive bark yet ether
sure its just another random sound they make

Strange noises. Rocky makes a strange noise when he is asleep and dreaming. It's kind of like a muffled woof/whimper sound, it really cracks me up sometimes, but then I'll go to the bed and gently stroke his head until he quietens down again.

Romeo cackles.... all the time. that is the only word i can use to discrible it. I have also heard him make that high pitched screamy noise, he does it when he is A. very excited or B. really stressed out.
Normally he just mumbles and grumbles away
