Blaze is home!
Okay, so a little info.. my little staffy puppy was separated from his mother, and then nearly all of his litter were sold. He and only his sister remained, and being only 5 weeks old, I understand it's not the best situation, but vet gave the go ahead to bring him home.
Hasn't been as worrying as I thought it would be. Other than having an adventerous pup, that sleeps practically all day, he's been pretty good. For now..
Anyways here he is

Re: Blaze is home!
Thank you all, I'm pretty chuffed to say the least. First night went well, no whining through the night. Just a hyperactive pup running about in the early hours of the morning. All worthwhile!

When he's been separated from his mum, and is completely on his own, whilst litter is all gone? And will DA.. What do you mean?

Re: Blaze is home!
DA is dog aggressive. Pups learn alot from their littermates from the 5-8 week stage including socialization, how to play and bite inhibition. You should look into puppy classes if there are some near you or find a couple of well socialized older dogs to help teach him when he is old enough to go outside

why was the pups took away from the mum for?

Ahh, sorry, not very good with abbreviations. Think mum had an infection of some sort, if I can remember rightly. Once he's old enough, there are several older dogs he can socialise with, other than that, I'll also be attending puppy classes.
The litter was not at all planned, and both parents are being spayed/castrated.

Re: Blaze is home!
i still think you going have a DA dog... when he get all of his jabs and ready to go out i would find walking partners 3/4 other dogs get him/her well socialized or you will have problems

I suppose so. I was hoping to keep him with his litter for as long as possible.. but that plan failed. He's under 24/7 supervision anyhow, and has an appointment for the vets for another check up. So hoping all goes okay..

He will be, there's no doubt about it. I've even asked in preparation and have many willing friends offering to help out with the socialising. And I'll be doing everything I possibly can to ensure he doesn't become DA.

Very bad breeding I agree, but it doesn't mean the dog will DA though.

Re: Blaze is home!
He's very cute!
Ask your vet about puppy socialisation classes as lots of vets do them for unvaccinated puppies and it would be a real benefit to get that early socialisation with other pups.
Also, I'm sure even a few of the critics would agree that it would be a good idea to teach him to soften his bite before you teach him not to bite in this case as he's so young and hasn't had the opportunity to start learning bite inhibition from his litter mates.

Thanks, he's due in this week for a check over, so will ask then!
As for softening his bite, I've already started lol. I speak out loud, walk away and leave him in the room n his own for a few minutes. He soon comes running back over. There's been a few times where he's bitten a lot softer than I had expected, but it'll take time

I don't agree. I don't think there's any difference. It isn't just bite inhibition that siblings teach each other.
Sorry, you'll never convince me that teaching a dog to soften its bite before teaching it not to bite is anything but a waste of time.
