wow...
I just had the worst encounter in the park... from someone who was attempting to compliment Saxon! I was sitting in the park with Saxon and OH when two men walked a few feet in front of us. One turned to his friend and said:
"Look at that m***********! Only a puppy and his teeth are already huge!"
He then turned to OH and I and said:
"Got a good head on him!"
OH and I just sort of ignored the guy. He and his buddy were big guys that kind of looked like they may carry weapons and we didn't want to start something. We left the park soon after, didn't want to be there when they got back. But Jeeze!! That was just bizarre and sort of left me feeling nervous! I just hope I don't run into them while walking Saxon alone!

Re: wow...
Why ignore them? because they swore and looked big?
It didn't sound like they were trying to come across nasty.

Re: wow...
They called my dog a "m***********," commented on the size of his teeth, were really big guys and they looked and acted sketchy. I don't care how they were trying to come across, they came across as the kind of people that I didn't want to talk to.

Re: wow...
I probably read it wonrg. Just sounds like they were talking slang rather than trying to be offensive and threatening to me.

Re: wow...
Maybe you just have to have been there, but they were not nice people talking in slang. They were genuinely sketchy people. The way in which they commented on Saxon's teeth, was not in a nervous way, but in a way that seemed impressed. With all the talk of a possible dog fighting rings in Maine this past fall, I am always cautious of people who are impressed with my dog's teeth/muscles/tough look (which happens a few times a week).

Re: wow...
Arrr i see your point. Thought at first they were just a couple of ermm less educated people (Like me ) rather than lets act hard type blokes.
I'm from a lower working class background and sometimes see people looking down their nose at people just because they don't use appropriate language even though many have been really nice people.
Sorry Cat I read it wrong. Please accept my apology

Re: wow...
Not a problem, I understand. I try not to judge and usually will talk with and try educate people about Saxon/his breed, but these people just made me nervous and I had no desire to talk to them.

Re: wow...
Ermmm an odd one Cat. That's one reson why I dont very often walk Rocky alone and certainly not at night, you just never know who is around the next corner.
Rocky is very protective of us both but even so it pays to be careful.

Re: wow...
I know what you mean. One evening I was walking Debo alone, guy from behind approached comlementing on Debo, which was nice. he asked questions like how old is he,male, and last one was do you have papers for him? maybe it was a simple question but it got me alert. I just said some of them and walked away.

I have a few of the undesired compliments of Ledger but either from chav wannabes or drunk Polish chaps the latter can be a little intimidating in groups but most of the time I don't have a clue what they are saying, ignorance is bliss

Re: wow...
I'd have been alarmed too! Without seeing their body language and just going on the words my first thought would have been could they be potential "dognappers"?
I could be totally wrong but I was just out with Benson and we got talking to an owner who was virtually stalked over a couple of weeks by similar sounding individuals.
They started with general compliments, then on "huge head", "big teeth", "strong jaws", then "are you local" and culminating with offers of money All very sinister.
I'd be tempted to walk Saxon a different place or at a different time for a while if that's possible.

Re: wow...
I walk Buster alone and normally early or late at night. I don't like it when I come across men that start to pay a bit too much attention to Buster, it makes me feel very nervous when you hear stories of dogs being stolen etc. I had a group of younger men watching me once while I was sat on a bench with Buster, then one of them walked past constantly looking at him. It was one of the few times that OH had come out with me though, and I was just waiting for him to come out of a shop. He tells me I'm being paranoid - maybe I am, but I don't want anyone getting their hands on Buster! He is far too soft to fight, and I know what happens to the dogs that don't fight back

If someone like those chaps, came up to me and said that about my dogs teeth, I would have said, very seriously: All the better to eat you with

Really ????
The worst I had was with my last Staffy Zac (very DA) ... was in Wales at the time, Zac started his usual performance at the sight of another dog, and these two chavvy scum types said in a quiet shady voice .. "look how game he is" not thinkin I could hear them ... and couldnt take their eye's off him ... made me a bit paranoid about him being stolen at the time (but it would take a lot more than two of um to get my dog off me )

Re: wow...
Luckily, this was in a park we don't normally go to and we took the long way home to make sure we weren't followed. I didn't want them to know where we live. Maybe I'm being overly paranoid, but I love Saxon and don't want to lose him. And, yes, m*********** is Samuel L. Jackson's favorite word, lol.
