Where does your dog sleep?
Just wondering...
Callie has always slept in a crate in our daughter's room. We have had bad thunderstorms and no power the last few days and she was frightened, so let her sleep on our bed and then on my daughter's bed. Was a bit worried as she still has occasional accidents-or that she'd get into something and eat it like the little goat she is-but other than being a bed hog she was fine. My kids would love to let her sleep with them...is this a good or bad idea? She's not quite 5 months.

Re: Where does your dog sleep?
We have our two boys in our bed. Piggy prefers to sleep on the couch by herself. I have never had a dog wet the bed but she might be tempted to jump off and have a wee. I am a pretty light sleeper so I know if they get off the bed.

Suki sleeps with us as well. We kept her in a crate the first week while we were doing initial training. We got her at about the same age Callie is now. She did have one bed wetting incident but that was it. I don't think there is any harm in having them sleep with you at all

Rocky sleeps on our bed and we have never had an accident, well so far anyways.

Blue used to sleep on my bed, no accidents. It's not natural for a dog to dirty in the same place they sleep, so she will more likely get off the bed to go than go on it.

Re: Where does your dog sleep?
Moo sleeps on my bed or the sofa, she has free run to be where ever, although I do get a better nights sleep when she is on the sofa because she has to lay across the bed rather than down it!!

They are the ultimate in bed hogs! Ledger sleeps on the bed he like to keep contact with me most nights. I can't see the problem with Callie sleeping with you but with regards to the children it would depend on how old they are

Re: Where does your dog sleep?
Diesel sleeps on our bed all the time and Tank still sleeps in his crate cause he's only 16wks and tbh there is no more room in our bed lol !
Soon as hubby goes to work Tank comes out of his crate and snuggles up on the bed.
We plan to buy a bigger bed in a few weeks purly to accommodate myself, hubby and the 2 dogs lol !

Both our dogs are on the bed, and Loki takes it a step further by lying under the covers, with her hear on the pillow.
It depens on the weather as well. Maska prefers his bed on the floor in summer, but as soon as its cooler he's on the bed with us.

Re: Where does your dog sleep?
Oh dear, are we the only people that try not to let the dog sleep in the bed? We even successfully ignored a several hour whinge that began at about 3am last week.
As she's our first dog we thought it was important to make her sleep separately as a boundary, so we've pretty much stuck with that since we got her.
Well, that's not strictly true... we started letting her in at weekends so we didn't have to get up when she did...
...then she also started coming in on weekday mornings when my wife gets out of bed (I stay in an extra 45 minutes).
And over the past couple of months she's learned she can get in and go to sleep without us even noticing. Her previous tactic was to barge the door open, run across the room, leap onto Charlotte's head, then continuously stand on our faces and necks until we acknowledged her arrival, before burrowing under the covers and settling down to a loud snore.

When we go to bed, my dog sleeps on the floor (on her bed) beside us. Then when she gets a bit cold in the night she gets onto the bed. When it's really cold, I get woken by a very wet nose trying to get under the covers!

Zeus sleeps in his cage downstairs (with the door closed) at the moment, but once he's grown up and understood what he can and cannot bite/chew/rip apart lol, I'd want him to sleep downstairs with the cage door open so he can wander round as he pleases!

Re: Where does your dog sleep?
Both mine are free to do as they please, I usually get woke up to Kodi next to me head on pillow attempting to be a scarf whilst snoring as all males do and Maz 80% gets in with my 11yr old 20% is in to much of a deep sleep on the dog bed or sofa to notice everyones gone bed so stays there, old dogs
When OH is here they both go in the kitchen with cage doors open or its just too much with Kodi trying to get inbetween us on the pillows

Re: Where does your dog sleep?
Our 7-month old, Skye sleeps on top of the bed with no problem (no weeing or the other!), and has done since she was about 3 months old. We still get her to sleep in her crate occasionally, just so she won't forget. I find it actually kind of comforting knowing she's on the bed beside us, a wee warm bundle...

Re: Where does your dog sleep?
we tried to do the 'not on the bed' thing and once we were fast asleep you get the thudunk sound when spike has decided its time to get on the bed cause mummy and daddy are fast asleep and wont notice.
I wouldnt be without him in our bed tho even if he does take up all the space and once he even streched and pushed me out of the bed onto the floor, the pain with spike tho is that he constanty get hot and cold so gets in and out of the covers, I woke up one morning spooning spike. i did have to laugh cause he was fast asleep and snoring his little head off !!!

Both of mine are on the bed. They are kind enough to leave me a little bit of room to sleep Bella was in her crate for the first couple of months until I could trust her not to chew things she shouldn't.

Re: Where does your dog sleep?
Aww I feel really cruel because ours have always slept in their beds downstairs
Although now Saffy has started sleeping all night more or less (she gets up at 5) we do have morning cuddles until it's time to get up, after she's been out for a wee of course.
I can't leave her unsupervised because one of my cats isn't keen on her.

Zac used to sleep in the bed with us down by our feet as he got older he's just come in for a cuddle with hubby and then he'd get out again and sleep on his own bed.
Obi sleep with us he's 10 weeks and so far no accidents he's learnt how to jump off the bed just need him to learn how to jump back on instead of waking me up to lift him in

Re: Where does your dog sleep?
Romeo started sleeping on my bed at 4½ months old. he would sit at the bed and cry to be picked up. When i first got him he would never get into my bed, he was more then happy in his own. But that changed when we went for a holiday in the north and he was a little upset at being far from home in a strange place so he did crawl into bed with me...then it never stopped
when he gets too hot though he hops off and sleeps in his bed or on the rug on the floor

Re: Where does your dog sleep?
We already have our 2 1/2 year old son and 8 month old daughter in our bed so no room for Molly. She sleeps in a crate in kitchen and to be honest she loves it, its her wee sanctuary. It would be very unusual for a dog to pee where it sleeps especially if its not caged in to that place.

Lily sleeps on her chair at the bottom of the stairs. All our other dogs have slept downstairs so it never occurred to me to treat her any different. To be honest with you, I don't think I would be able to sleep with her grunting, snorting and farting all night
