Bailey was bit on the face on his walk today :(
Just been out for my walk and as always when I see another dog, I put mine on the lead so I have control of them, this man came up to me with his patterdale and Bailey went near him and he just went crackers at him, poor pup didn't where to turn.
The man didn't ask if mine was ok just carried on walking....Cor blimey if that was mine doing it to him there would uproad. Makes me so mad.........Just needed a rant
Bailey is ok and no blood was drawn but he was shaken up.

That happened to me aswell when I took Zeus for a walk when he was around 13/14 weeks old.. a german shephard went nuts at Zeus and tried biting him, luckily I grabbed Zeus just in time so he couldnt, but Zeus was shook up. Just give Bailey plenty of love and he'll be ok in no time! Thankfully he wasn't hurt too bad

Awww, poor baby! Lots of love and cuddles needed, and yes if the shoe was on the other foot I am sure he'd have had something to say about it!!

It's the irresponsible owners unforunatly that are at fault, I had the same thing happen a few days ago. I guess I have got used to it and expect it really. I now avoid loose dogs like the plague and am very wary about who Rocky goes anywhere near. This hasn't done his socialisation much good but there you go.

Thank you everyone for the nice thoughts and comments, he is fine this morning, but I just hope he doesn't put him off saying hello to other dogs he meets.

I'm glad bailey is ok. Its good to rant eh? lol my last one was when a mental spaniel ran the length of footy park to chase and then bite floyd. The man should have deffo at least spoke to you, said sorry or recalled and leashed his. From what u said, its clear your up for letting him say hello to other dogs which is perfect! I hope you both wont be put off continuing to socialise as often as possible.
The bite could be a simple case of doggy manners and respect. Was it an attack with several bites and a hold and shake, or a growl and warning nip?
Perhaps the patterdale was approached in wrong manner or felt threatend or your dog displayed wrong body language. Or perhaps the patterale was just dog aggressive or had previous encounters.
Sometimes the best way for a dog to learn correct manners of approach and meeting new dogs is to let them do this off lead. Regular small groups of friendly play mates is a great idea,.. obviously if your dog non aggressive has good recall and is still being trained. A small pack of playmates will teach a dog more about manners and doggy politics than any human can.
You often hear about a bad dog, a bad owner, sometimes theres a bad situation. How many times have u heard an owner of 'any' breed say, oh hes never done that before, he is usually ok with other dogs. Doggy politics is rarely mentioned. Assuming the patterdale gave a warning nip... it doenst make it an aggressive dog. Nor does it make a bad owner. Since no blood was drawn i'd say it could have been just a warning, coz if a patterdale was to attack, blood would deffo flow. yeah obviously blood could be drawn on warning bites aswell. They are the perfect hunting dog but due to the bull terrier blood in it, they were deemed to 'game' towards the sniffers and hounds in fox hunts so were used as ratters and used in small packs on other gone to ground animals. They are feisty wee things and if they mean to cause damage they certainly can.
IF the patterdale drew blood on a warning nip and a vet was needed, it would be classed as a dog on dog attack, logged and turned into another statistic.
Imagine this scenario:
One of our perfectly well trained well socialised staffs has some young upstart dog who is boysterous and dominant, run into the middle of a play session in the park, it mounts the lhasa apso, steals the collies ball, approaches our staff in wrong manner sniffs and doesnt allow a sniff, get in your staffs face, perhaps a dominance mounting occours or a head over the back and our staff (who could be perfectly well socialised and dog friendly)
has a nip to say, oi mate pack it in, or a scuffle happens the owner would see an aggressive staff and if that warning bite or scuffle drew blood, it would be another staff bite statistic, and we may deemed as a bad owner.
Doggy politics is a complex thing and is often misunderstood by human and dog alike. Keep hugging bailey and keep him meeting new friends and enjoy your walk this lovely soaking wet sunday lol
