Romeo's first show results
SO! Today at 10:09 me and Romeo hit the ring for the first time. I thought we did really well concidering it was blinding hot, it was our first time and we had only had a tiny practice twice.
Well....I THOUGHT WRONG!
We had a swedish judge and apparently he didnt like Romeo at all and we were one of the first two asked to leave the ring. Now my swedish is bad at best, but the hand writting on this critique was disgusting! I asked my swedish friend Robin who had come to watch, with his girlfriend (also a close friend of mine) and not even he could read it really that well.
but this is what we were able to manage... we think
"Shallow chest. Too long body. Loose elbows. Large boned. Too big ears. Under bite. Back too straight. Eyes turned, gives negative look to expression. Excellent head and great temperament."
You would think my dog was falling apart, and turned eyes....what? Did he mean too narrow eyes? um.. it was 35 degrees, no clouds... so hot that Romeo just wanted to lay belly down on the grass and was puffing like a train poor little think. he does NOT like the heat at all.
Actually, poor Robin had LOTS of other comming up to ask us what the hell their critiques said. NO-ONE could understand the hand writting at all. None of us knew why it was written in swedish... we live in finland... we speak finnish... why didnt they write it in english? it was an International show after all.
But the gist is, he gave really bad critique is almost every dog who came to have us read their paper... none of them were very positive. Th eonly person who didnt ask us what it said really, out of the 40 dogs, bitches and pups there was the person who won. Yes i say person. there was one man who showed a pup, a bitch and a dog... he won all the rounds. He didnt ask us what his said.
But yo know what, thats ok because Romeo is such a fantastic dog! I brought him a new leather lead and 10 pigs ears and let him eat two because we took him to the park after with some friends and played foot ball with him bvut he was too hot so he just laid under a picnic table and watched mostly.
I need to learn alot more about how to stand my dog correctly and Romeo needs to learn to be still and trot next to me, well time heals all
i have already posted these pictures before, but they will do until i see if i have any from the show.

Re: Romeo's first show results
Oh Taryn, what a shame. But don't let it get to you. I'm no show judge, but I think Romeo is absolutely GORGEOUS!

Re: Romeo's first show results
no i dont think he was... but then again i wasnt sure....His pup that won was Suuuuuuper tiny compared to all the others.
I havent. i have another show in August that Romeo will go to. its a specilty show... if i get bad reveiws on that i think me and romeo might look into obediance or ... dog dance or... agility when he is a little older.
But it was still a fun day
I have a long way to go still... lots to learn and all

Re: Romeo's first show results
Romeo is anything but large boned! The man obviously had something up his *rse. I love Romeo just the way he is. dont give up on just one show.

Re: Romeo's first show results
i know, i always thought Romeo was such a tiny little thing for a staff Hahahah. maybe this guy likes more English blood lines. Rome is Australian and south African blood lines Built to last
Re: Romeo's first show results
Thats a shame, I don't think I could ever show a dog, I'd be really upset if it got slated! Think of it as practice

The judge didn't need to be related to the winner, but it sounds like he probably knew him/her. It happens, I'm afraid.
Romeo isn't undershot, is he?

Re: Romeo's first show results
yeah he is, its very tight, but still. i didnt exspect to win. but i didnt think there was THAT much wrong with him
I have had lots of people look at him about his teeth. many have told me in staffs its the canines that really matter, but i doubt it.

Re: Romeo's first show results
yes well... some of the reveiws were strange. One said that Pomo. the dog that normally scores best, that his tongue was too small..... ummm huh? as long as he has a tongue in his mouth is good enough for me
And Loiri was something like too masculine dog... its a staffy, they are meant to be! but the way he had written it, wasnt that it had too much mass... but that it was too manly...well it was a hot day... sun stroke happens to the best of us i guess XD

well... its like some one saying your kids ugly to you..... but i guess this is what i signed myself up for when i became a....'pageant mum'
Re: Romeo's first show results
Don't be discouraged. The first show I ever went to with my first ever show dog (a border collie bitch, impeccably bred) was a disaster! The judge just didn't like her. She was too 'finely cast', not 'strong enough' etc, etc. She was 6 months & 1 day old! I showed her for another 18 months before I bred from her & she won or came 2nd in every class after that!
I'm not saying that certain judges are crap just because they don't agree with me, but they all like different things & all have their own interpretation of the standard. Try again. As far as I can see, the only thing holding Romeo back is his age & his mouth. Judges will pay attention to different faults in different degrees.

Re: Romeo's first show results
yeah i'm thinking the same. he still needs to.. well grow into himself. thanks Caryll, i really respect your opinion
Re: Romeo's first show results
At least he's got an excellent head and good temperament! It was your first time, you've gained experience! And now you know what it's like to have an awful judge! By my standards, Romeo is one of the most handsome Staffords out there!

Re: Romeo's first show results
Well even though it is discouraging, it is the dog show business. It is a brutal world. The mouth will continue to be a challenge, but some will probably not ding you so hard. Keep working and I think the heat did not help too.

Re: Romeo's first show results
By the way, the bitch that won was your dogs half sister and not owned or anyway connected to the "person" whose dog was BOB and best puppy
Don´t worry, Romeo is a very handsome young dog and will certainly succeed in future shows
