Here is my best mate, kobi. Hes around 17 months and hes a sensation to have around you! would like to see what people think of him if anything. Also would like to know whether anybody who has good enough knowledge and experience to tell me whetehr he is pure breed or whether that eh has been crossed along the line. If any1 also has any information on slipping a disk in a staffs back pulled back musles or how knocking a staffys tail could effect him/her, my staff has just had to have an injection and 2 forms of tablets after taking him to the vets with a 'wide stance' not been able to relax from pulling something or hurting his spine, not even 24 hours after hes jumping around rollinga round jumping up and down on the sofas, i mean hes a staff we can do everything we can to calm him so he gets hs rest but he just doest seem to want to. any help from yourselves would be much appreciated x

Hi & welcome to the forum.
What a handsome boy Kobi is! What a shame he's hurt his back - they're such rough dogs aren't they?
I think all you can do is try to watch him & step in before he jumps around. Not easy, by any means. Does he seem to be in pain? What did the vet tell you?

I take it you don't have papers for him? He's an unusual colour for a staff.

Hi and welcome. Kobi is gorgeous. he has staffie looks but the only real way of knowing is if he has papers (or you know for a fact his parents are pure bred and or registered)

Re: coem see what you think of my sensation :)
Oh wow he is a gorgeous boy a really unusal but stricking colour sorry he has hurt his back but although i agree they are very tough strong dogs they do feel pain so if he is jumping around and seems bright and not in pain, try not too worry too much and just keep as calm as you can i know thats hard mine has a torn ligament at the min but is still charging around like a loon!! Again i will say what i,ve said in past posts pedigree show staffs have specific critera colours height weight etc, but there has been some crossing too get unusal colours light eyes etc, and alot of staffs are bigger now he is stunning whatever but he looks staffy too me

Good looking boy! Looks almost champagne to me which isn't usual for Staffs. I would guess he is Staffy X but with who knows what! Doesn't really matter to me personally. I hope he heals fully recovers. Not much help here. Couldn't stop mine from jumping about even if they are in pain from it...

He is a gorgeous boy! The colours remind me of a lighter coloured lab, maybe it's possible he has lab in the family somewhere, although I wouldnt say one of his parents as he doesnt look even slightly lab.
Sorry to hear he has hurt his back, Im sorry Im no use though. I dread it when the vet says "keep them calm"

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
Strained muscles or ligaments are quite common and heal quite easily. Can you expand on what happened in more detail ?
Also, has a disc problem been confirmed by the vet.

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. Kobi is a handsome dog. Have you tried mental activities like seek or training sessions to help keep him calm?

Re: coem see what you think of my sensation :)
kobi has come from 2 blue staffies, travelled quite a distance to get him, about 3 hours i think lol. caught m y eye and that was it knew he was mine !! He has a sandy colour across his body with white areas, in different lights you can see a light shiny blue tint across his back and paws. He has always been really defined since a pup.
and as far as what the vet said it was just a case of rest and very light excersize, his back was scrunched up and tight as if the muscels had contracted to protect any further injury. i had gone to bed as usual with kobi always sleeping ontop of me to start with lol and when i woke at 5 in the morning to push him away from creating the nastiest smell in my room he didnt look too impressed, he moved down the bed and lay down again, i got up to walk downstairs heard kobi jump off the bed and come by the door. when i returned around half hour later he was still at the door looking uncomfortable, he was still able to walk but to be caucious i carried him downstairs where it was more apparent thathe had indured an injury! the only thing i canthink of is that i must have pushed or hit (cant remember been half asleep at that time ) his tail and hurt it (he has had a tail injury b4 didnt take him vets as he was walking and not in much pain or it was when he jumped off the bed! its was pure agony for me and of course kbi, to see hiim like that hes everything to me.
i am so happy to see so many replies so early to signing up and thank everybody for the nicecomments and interest keiran x

You could try to get an ice pack on the area. Try wrapping up a bag of frozen peas in a tea towel and place on the area for about 10 minutes. This will soothe the pain and ease the spasm.

What sort of tail injury was it? How did he hold his tail & what could he do/not do with it when he hurt it? Do you think it's the same thing this time, or is it definitely his back?

Re: coem see what you think of my sensation :)
thats the problem we dont know exactly what it is/was as he never had xrays. when he had his tail injury b4 he was stil walking about without the wide stance but his tail tucked up between his legs, this time it was tail between his legs wide leg stance and did not want to sit or ly down, his back was hunched and rock hard from muscle spasm. not even 24 hours after hes running round like a loon...so worries that if it happens again teh shock will be too much

Re: coem see what you think of my sensation :)
the last time he hurt his tail he put it tucked in behind his legs but he was till walking about n not in alot of pain. this time it was tail between his legs back scrunched up not wanting to sit lydown or even move, cried every so often and wined...but less than 24 hours in and he was already looking as he was before he pulled something...possibly a loose disk? :/ who knows all i know is im probably going to put him through the xrays if anything else occurs.

also my lil man has allergies, hes illegic to grass and pollen, chicken and egg - we dont knwo what else atm but we know giving him beef makes him sick. he takes a steroid a day and 3 puritan tablets but hopng to knock the steroids on the head soon. most can only need the steroid through summer season but kobi unfortunately has to have it all the time. only able to eat burns or james welbeloved foods as winalot - pedigree - butchers - aqy other dog brand makes him scratch and cut himself open, very time consuming dog but all worth it for my boy

Re: coem see what you think of my sensation :)
Hi welcome. Beautiful dog! Unfortunately you may find a lot of problems with his health due to having two blue parents so you will have to find what works for him and stick to it. (i don't want anyone to start a debate on this topic please, i am just informing this person!)
As for the back legs, staffs generally have good bodies but if they get hurt it will be quite serious as they tend to have a large pain threshold. vets will be able to advise you more but * suggested, less walks and maybe a crate for a while.

Re: coem see what you think of my sensation :)
crate? and as time goes on hes walking and jumpinga s normal if he goes out for more than ten mins (whilst pulling the whole time) u can tell hes uncomfortable and wont sit down...i have squeezed pressed and pulled his legs and muscles with what looks liek no discumfort, but when i place my fingers on the bottom of his tail his * goes down and looks at your hand as if to say 'go on i dare you' lol hes encountered a tail injury before but i think as its a reocurence its a lilw orse this time - happens again tail removal????? and yes i heard that from blues you will get problems, the same vet that put my lil man on steroids and puritan was the same 1 who told my friend with a blue staffy to bath him in a tar shampoo to stop the itching and scratching. unfortunately because kobis is so bad he has to have the tablets . im hoping his inury isnt a minor slipped disk or muscle or joint problems and that its his tail. thank you fopr your reply x

A crate is basically a cage. It's designed to give them a place of their own that they feel safe in and is their own.

Re: coem see what you think of my sensation :)
Unless the injury is past the first bone in his tail removal won't help it. If its right at the base of his tail its spinal and should deffo get checked out again, it is possible to break the tail/back bone by pulling too hard on a tail..has anyone ever accidently done this or has he chased his own tail?
Guest- Guest
Re: coem see what you think of my sensation :)
o i see, ye kobi has his own little space but always follows me about and lys down next to me so hes not active all the time. cage is a no no lol the owners that i got kobi from locked him in a cage and never let him out, so once in a cage he screams constantly, shakes vigerously and gets very angry towards the cage and justd oesnt stop from 5 mins to 3 hours lol
i tried to contact the owners the day after purchase and 3 months after for past health isues any information that would be helpful but it was clear they were money orientated and not for the love of these amazing family pets, i mean as if i would give my dog back or sell him just cus hes not the healthiest, some people just dont deserve animals!
and its definately at teh base that he feels uncomfortable, he chases it yet more so since he first done it. the vet has squeezed and pushed all along his back and tail but eh still didnt react, hes a very timid placid dog no aggression watsoever, even too soft to hang off a rope he doesnt liek showing aggression which does actually make it harder to find where the problems coming from, iw ill be sending him for xrays in the next couple weeks, closer if he doesnt seem to get better but as i say he chases his tail on his bum he rolls over he wags his tail fine unless hes been out n hurts it a lil again but after a lil while its wagging and seems very happy again x

Its almost a champagne colour, I expect its a throw back from breeding two diluted coat colours with one another. He still has pigment as his eyes are dark and so are the rims. I would call it light fawn maybe. Hes lovely though, and doesn't look like a cross to me though hes a big boy!

just to let the people that were interested in how kobi is getting on, he is doing really well it seems like the injury that he had was his tail. past few days hes been jumping about running constantly and chasing other dogs and playing without been in discumfort when he comes home so i dont think its his legs or back!! is so glad to have my boy up and about!!

Re: coem see what you think of my sensation :)
my staff today has started to look uncomfortable again with his back end hes walking but can tell hes in a lil discomfort so making him rest as much as possible!! i am looking for info on minor slipped disks? can they still walk and run as usual? what does this mean will he have to have an operation, i thought it couldnt be a slipped disk if he is still walking and moving ok his legs bend straight back so theres no tension in his legs ....really need sum info x
