The park where I take Tyson almost everyday for a romp is an off lead park. Everyone that brings their pooches and all are very socialised. It is not unusal to have dogs charging up to each other in happy greeting and incidents are really unusual. It is an unwritten rule that you do not let your dog off lead if it is a trouble maker.

A guy came in with two staffies both off lead. A black male and what looked like a black and white female. On closer look, the white was a bandage around the chest and to the left and the poor girl was missing a leg. As usual, half the dogs ran up to the newcomers, including Tyson and the owner panicked. I called Tyson back and there was no agression anywhere. The dogs all greeted each other without issue but the poor chap was a wreck and his energy could have sparked something. I put the leash on my boy and had a chat with the guy. His poor girl was a few days out of surgery having lost her left front leg to cancer. he said that she was around 8 years old and all this had happened within the space of two weeks from the moment they noticed a growth on her leg. Both dogs are beautiful examples of the breed and it is clear that they were well loved.

The man was so grateful that the surgery appears to have removed all of it and that his girl was still with their family. The lttle romp in the park seemed to do her the world of good as well.

Hug your doggies tonight everyone knowing just how lucky we are.

Will do Lynne, we sometimes dont realise how lucky we are.

Thankfully they got to the leg quickly and most probably saved her life.
