That look of adoration
Do all of your dogs look at you like you're the center of the universe? I'm on the sofa having a cuddle with Charlie and he's laid out with his head on my chest looking at me with his gorgeous big brown eyes, and it's such an adoring look, as if I'm the only thing in the world that matters to him. He does it all the time, but only with me. It absolutely melts my heart. I love my gorgeous Charlie to pieces.

Holly will look like that at you soon I guess it's cos I do the feeding and playing and exercising. As much as my hubby and kids love him too, he's definitely my dog. He's such a good boy, I couldn't imagine life without him now!

Re: That look of adoration
Yep i get it as well, it's a great feeling knowing that someone loves you unconditionally. U should hear Harley carry on when i come back in through the gate after i have been out he carries on like i've been gone for months even if i have only gone to the shops 5 minutes away(i don't take therem as there are to many other dogs around and there's no where to tie them up). If anyone was walking past they'd think he was being murdered, even my sister couldn't believe it. I love the special times with my dogs.

Re: That look of adoration
Gizmo does this and i melt. From a small puppy he has looked at us and his eyes say "you are my world". He is the most adoring dog ever and gets away with murder!!

Re: That look of adoration
The butter wouldnt melt look did NOT work on me an hour ago. I was cuddling up with Charlie on the sofa and he suddenly jumped up and bit me on the chin! Hard! It really hurt. I shouted ow, told him bad dog and gave him a timeout. I was so not impressed. If he'd bitten one of my kids like that he'd have been in serious trouble! We've made up now and he's having a snooze on my lap

Re: That look of adoration
I have teeth marks and a graze on my chin I couldn't believe it! One minute he's laying there giving me his I love you look, then he just bit me. He is sooooo lucky it wasnt one of the kids, he would have been in very deep doggy doo doo if it was!

Re: That look of adoration
Ouch! Very lucky it was one of your kids, wonder what on earth made him do it?! Just a puppy thing I guess

Re: That look of adoration
I got no idea why he did it. I shouted and put him in his crate for a timeout and he looked so sad but I didnt give in. I made him wait there for 15 minutes then let him out. He sidled over to me and crawled into my lap and licked my face, such a creep! All is forgiven now

Re: That look of adoration
Yep you can never be angry for too long!! Be carfull using the crate as time out, only cause I heard that they should want to go in there and not to associate it with being naughty

Re: That look of adoration
Its never usually used as punishment, I just didnt know what else to with him after he bit me. He loves his crate, he goes in there quite often with his toys and lays there with the door open. I know I shouldnt have put him in there when I was mad with him but it really shocked me and I just didnt have a clue what else to do. Bless him, I know its a puppy thing but I cant have him doing that to my kids, a little nip is ok, they're used to that if he gets a bit excited, but I cant have him biting them the way he bit me. I'm really gonna have to watch him.

Re: That look of adoration
Your so right, and as they grow it blooming well hurts, mine still nips slighty when she gets over excited!! Must have been a shock for you.

Gizmo has also done this to me, was excitment. I instinctively smacked his nose and shouted. Felt bad after but he has never done it since. I think i scared him :-( Like you say though, you have to nip it in the bud incase he does it with children. If i remember correctly Gizzy was less than a year old and he honestly wasn't being aggressive at all...

Re: That look of adoration
Well Charlie is only 3 months, I know its not in the least bit aggressive, just can't risk it with the kids. I think if he does it again, I'll shout ow again and give him a little smack on the nose, hopefully that'll ensure he doesnt do it to me again or to anyone else!
Guest- Guest
Re: That look of adoration
I don't think you should smack them on the nose as it can damage them. I didn't mean to it just bloody hurt and i lashed out. I would think what you did is correct as in removed him from you and let him know you were not happy.
Saying that, I am quite sure my Gizmo is not frightened of me.

Re: That look of adoration
I wouldn't hurt him. Just shock him and make him realise its unacceptable. I'd never normally raise a hand to him but I really need to let him know that biting like that will not be tolerated.

Re: That look of adoration
When kaos was little he used to do this lunging thing at my hubby all the time. He would be sitting on the floor while we were on the sofa then all of a sudden he used to literally lunge at him and jump onto his lap and nip his chin....I really dont no why he did it for ages though even with a really hard telling of and separation every time he did it! Ill admitt he still does it now sometimes but instead of the nip its a lick, but even still when a 7 month old staff lunges at your face its still not nice but he only ever does it to my hubby no one else! weird! x
