is it best to switch my ipod off when not using or leave it on like a phone?

Aw, just let it run. I never turn my stuff off. If you use it daily, just charge it when you get down below 10%. You'll get the hang of how long it can stay on. Comes in handy for browsing the forum at night laying in bed... you are going to become..."one of those."

Years. Battery powered speakers will go 6-7 hours playing music, but can be plugged in. The nice ones will charge your ipod while playing music.
