I want to cry!!!! Empty I want to cry!!!!

Post by jola139 Wed May 23 2012, 21:45

So we have a lovely Debo, who's 10 weeks. From day one he knows where he can go or not and he knows his sits, stay, lay, leave but..... He bites me,well is more like nibbling and it's only me. At first I thought it's my OH games with him ,partly it is. He played with him using his hands, pushing him away. He stoped that now because I told him it's not a good idea. But Debo just bites me. I come from work first, let him out from the crate,no big fuss, wee, food and then we play and train. After an hour he's getting in the mad mood. He runs around the house like mad, tries nibbile on me,barks. He got me few times .My OH said he doesn't do it for him even the madness not there. I try to ignore him,it doesn't work. Sometimes I feel like crying. I'm hoping it will pass when we finally take him outside for his first walk. He just did it again, after he calmed down I let him on the sofa and then he got my hand and barked ,I put him in the cage. Now his out doing his staff.

Things should start to improve when you can take him out for walks, but the main thing that will help is training. You'll need to be very patient, firm & consistent. Every time he bites you tell him no & stop whatever you were doing - just totally ignore him. Every time! If he carried on, pick him up & put him out of the room for a couple of minutes.

Have you tried exercising his brain? Hiding some treats around the room & letting him sniff them out?

Agree with Caryll, how long are the training sessions at the moment? Try to keep the training to about 5 minutes and end on a good note with something he does well with lots of praise after.

Mental stimulation could well work for him, hiding treats in say an empty egg box or rolled up in a blanket.

Be consistent with everyone following the same rules I'm sure you will get there.

Agree with the advice given already. Most if not all of us go through the same problem you are having. Patience and consistancy will pay off in the end

My friend's puppy is still doing all of this even though he is now 8 months old and it is all down to lack of training and consistency.

As Caryll and Kathy said above, training, consistency and patience are key here as is mental stimulation.

It WILL get better as long as you keep up with the training and everyone in your house follows the rules and are consistent.

Good luck Smile

I must admit that I wonder if you're expecting a bit too much. He's only 10 weeks old, he's still a baby. He's only been with you for, what, 2 weeks? 3 weeks?

Give him a chance. He'll catch on soon enough.

My 10wk pup who we have had for just over 2 weeks is beginning to understand what 'ouch!!!!' and 'no' means. It's like it's suddenly clicked.
When he has tried to have a chomp on me or one if the kids he gets a loud 'ouch' and pushed away. He's started to do the apology licking today lol

It is hard, but u need to be on the ball with everything - Tank is a sweetie and will already sit and wait for his dinners, guess he's seen Diesel doing the same ?

U will get bitten a few times until he learns, I have the pleasure of gremlin like growls occasionally too especially when I pick him up when he's in mental play mode with Diesel.

Be assertive, stand firm.

I also believe being ontop of the chewing can also help with the nipping/biting. If a pup is allowed to chew furniture, carpet , Walls etc then why not a person ?!

Stop the chewing stops the nippin. Buy a stagbar ! It's been a godsend to fulfill the chewing desire for my 2.

Thanks for all the support. We do not let him to chew on anythings that's not his. I think he's getting better or maybe it's just the hot weather. I also noticed that he's much calmer when we're both at home-at the weekends.

Great advice from Kathy and Caryll. I remember all to well those painfull bites on hands and ankles. I still have severl pair of jeans with holes in them around the hems. With patience and consistency it will come right. Just hang in there.

things can only get better....especially now you are going walkies to let off some of that steam!

yes I can recommend the stag bars ( or deer antlers ) gives them something to chew on and they last for ages...

when he goes outside or on a walk say a word ( I use widdles ) when he goes to the toilet....he will soon associate that word with going to the loo...now is the age to be teaching him. I open the door and say widdles and my 2 go out on the lawn and go ! Makes things alot easier.

My cousin taught his old girl Jess the naughty words for a no 1 and no 2 Blushing . When my Auntie started looking after her all day she tried everything to reteach her some nice words like widdle and poo but Jess wouldn't respond so she had to resort to changing from the lady that doesn't swear to someone with tourettes just to get Jess to go toilet Laughing
Tilly knows "weewee" but she doesn't realise she has to make some noise to get our attention if she;s desperate through the night

Very pleased to hear this went well. Some short walks will do him the world of good along with the socialisation side of it the mental stimulation will also tire him out. Well done for sticking with it thumbs up

As I said he's been good with other dogs but today he did something for the first time. When we approched big dog ( on the lead and friendly),the big one wanted to play but started bit to ruff and Debo backed up and squeaked a little and c went back to play again. Same thing happened when we met other Staffy, but his owner said he's not always friendly so we were watching carefully. Is it normal?
